Primary responsibility is the hardness inspection of heat treated forgings to customer specification. Operator will also assist the Heat Treat Group Leader in performing various duties within the department as circumstances warrant. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Check hardness of forgings after heat treat using Brinell and Rockwell testers in accordance the Hardness Testing Procedure HEAT-WI-005.
* Assign lot numbers as needed. Maintain traceability in accordance with QP-010.
* Forgings not meeting the hardness requirements references in the heat treat instructions are to be verified by the Heat Treat Group Leader or another Heat Treat Operator. Nonconforming lots are to be quarantined and identified with a Quality Hold Ticket (Form Q-04)
* Complete all documentation required by the heat treat instructions and QP-010. Requirements include hard copy documentation such as heat treat tickets, heat treat instructions, load diagrams as applicable, mainframe computer reporting, etc.
* Review heat treat tickets and heat treat instructions for test sample requirements. Thoroughly identify (Die #, Lot # symbol and Serial # as applicable) test sample(s) and deliver to the test lab after hardness inspection.
* Monitor heat treat cycles and furnace status during the thermal process. Assuring forgings are heat treated in accordance with Heat Treating QP-010 and heat treat instructions. Verify correct furnace temperature and cycle time by checking and initialing furnace charts every hour.
* Prepare loads of heat treat furnaces; placing forgings on grids, tray or baskets according to heat treat instructions and procedures, as applicable, Load forgings by hand, hoist or fork lift truck depending on size and configuration
* Load or unload furnaces employing a host of fork lift truck.
* Report equipment problems to the Process Metallurgist or the Maintenance Department.
* Apply sound safety practices when operating equipment and the handling of forgings. Maintain good house keeping within the department.
* All other duties as assigned.

Take the pails and then place them on the furnace deck from anywhere between floor to waist level.
Raise the lid of the furnace using hydraulic controls and pour the alloys from the metal box into the furnace at floor level-rarely. Most alloys added in hopper.
May have to lift 75# pails and pour ladle dope into the hopper.
Can also be required to lift 75# bags of alloy mix on an occasional basis per hour as needed.
Can also be required to shovel up to 1000#s into a drum. The drum is then moved using a crane.
Task #3: Cleaning and maintenance
Required to clean runners on an infrequent basis throughout the day as needed.
This involves stepping down into the runner from the furnace deck (approximately 1-2ft) and using a chisel that is 2-3 ft long to clean the solidified metal from the runner, sometimes utilizes a 20# handheld air hammer.
This involves using bilateral upper extremities and grating metal off with a moderate amount of force.
Can be required to squat, stoop, or kneel when accessing the runner for cleaning/ maintenance tasks.
May be required to do minor repair work on runners and on the top of furnace linings and pouring spouts using various hand tools with fine and gross motor coordination.
Slagging/cleaning the furnace is done using automatic battery-operated controls. No physical work is involved.
Clean ladle-which involves chipping of slag using chipping hammer.
Task #4: Testing and documentation
Take a small ladle weighing up to 5 #s and get a sample out of the furnace as needed for testing. Pour the molten metal into test molds. This is done on an infrequent basis throughout the day.
Make out reports or post data such as log sheets, preheat time, light-up time, melt time, down time, tests and additions made to heat.

Job Designation The CVD Operator/Heat Treater's job consists of the use of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), heat treat, and other high temperature resistance and induction heated vacuum furnaces, autoclaves, and ovens consistent with the manufacturing of carbon brakes and related carbon/carbon products. Furnaces may be used for carbonization, pyrolysis, heat treat, CVD, and other heating processes needed to control the life, hardness, density, or other required characteristics of carbon/carbon products.
Job Core Responsibilities
* Load and unload carbon products onto trees, diffuser plates, modules, or other similar devices used as platforms, containers, or racks in the furnaces.
* Assemble and disassemble trees, diffuser plates, and modules before and after each process.
* Responsible for the safe operation of elevators, overhead cranes, mules, and prime movers (excluding tow motors). This equipment may be used during the loading and unloading of furnaces or the removal and replacement of furnace caps, tops, and doors or as other needs require.
* Retrieve and return carbon products or assemblies such as module parts for heat treat or CVD processing from holding, staging queues, storage racks within the specified furnace and heat treat areas.
* Required to clean nitrogen vent ports, furnace flange, or other furnace components as needed using approved methods of cleaning prior to each operation of furnace and will be required to change vacuum filters and apply vacuum grease as required.
* Remove and replace all carbon black within the furnace before and after each process as required. Will also perform all functions relating to the extraction, containment, and replacement of used, graphitized carbon black when necessary.
* Prepare furnaces and equipment for vacuum operations, activate and deactivate vacuum pumps and perform any and all leak checks as required for safe and efficient operation of furnaces.
* Monitor and record all temperature, pressure, power, and gas flow meters and gages. Adjust appropriate settings and flow rates consistent with defined parameters and is responsible for maintaining all parameters throughout heating and cooling cycles.
* Operator is responsible for the proper operations of furnaces and will immediately notify a member of supervision when equipment warning devices are triggered or equipment is not functioning properly.
* Use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods are required to verify production processes and product quality. The Inspector (P-1582 classification) will validate the process.
* After training, CVD/Heat Treat operator must be able to interpret drawings, sketches, and follow specific detailed technical instructions, and any relative communications.

Essential Responsibilities:
Operator Responsibilities
Operate furnace and run assigned production: Perform operating role when machine is in regular production, perform startup and shutdown per work instructions. Furnace must be utilized 100% all the time.
Complete Batch Checks: Perform each required batch check per part/job being run. Fill out orange nonconforming tag and place into nonconforming if batch check is found to be out of specification.
Perform Documented SPC Checks: Perform all checks at beginning of each tub, record all data from the process sheet into the WinSpc quality system.
Complete labor and quantities reporting in ERP system: Clock in and out of labor system to record start and ending information as well as quantities completed. Weigh up each tub when finished and print require product identification and put in completed tubs.
Complete Daily Shift Requirements: Complete tasks assigned per Daily Shift Requirement work instruction for proper daily maintenance and machine upkeep. Make sure the centrifuge system (Post Wash) always maintains the proper operating flow rate.
Complete required communication logs: Fill out required documentation to share any pertinent information that future shifts need to know for better future operations.
Complete needed material handling for self and others: In the absences of, and in addition to, the material handler each operator is responsible for obtaining, staging, loading, and moving all needed tubs for a continuous operation.
Furnace Changeover and Troubleshooting Responsibilities
Perform furnace diagnostics to troubleshoot stoppage for immediate repair: When furnace/machines stop operating find root cause, repair and return them back to operating condition.
Perform general maintenance to working areas to ensure furnace uptime: Tighten, repair, or replace furnace/machine components when found to be out of tolerance. Refer to manuals for startup/shut down when necessary. This can be done by observing malfunctions and reviewing furnace/machine during downtimes and cleaning periods.
Report maintenance issues found: Notify leads, managers, or maintenance immediately of malfunctions found that need to be repaired beyond the operator's comfort level.
Perform part changeovers as needed: Utilizing the furnace schedules, complete required recipe changes as needed within the operators certified skill level.
Ensure 1st Piece Approvals are completed: Complete portion of checks required and ensure quality completion of the 1st piece prior to continual operations and resuming furnace operator responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Run Rotary Furnaces:
You will be responsible for running, monitoring, and quality checking parts throughout the Rotary process across two furnaces

You will use available controls to establish and maintain the appropriate equipment parameter for processing customer work. Including: reading and following instructions given on the order paperwork, following requirements in Euclid Heat Treating's Quality Management System, understanding written work instructions and the ability to operate machines accordingly.

Monitoring and documenting:
Complete all required fields on the shop router paperwork accurately and consistently and track the orders into the floor tracking system. Identify deviations which may affect results and notify the appropriate staff member(s).

Inspection & Testing:
Conduct required tests and observations pre-, mid-, and post-cycle to evaluate the accuracy or deviation of process results and communicate information to senior staff and/or supervisor. This includes hardness testing and case depth measurement.

Teamwork & Support:
Coordinate efforts with co-workers and incoming/outgoing shift personnel to achieve seamless transition of production output across shift changeovers.
