Bresnan Communications company history timeline

1984

The company was founded by cable industry pioneer William J. Bresnan in 1984.

1993

1993: Charter Communications, Inc. is formed by three former executives of Cencom Cable Associates, Inc., in St Louis, Missouri.

1995

In mid-1995 Charter picked up another 29,000 subscribers in northern and central Alabama from CableSouth Inc. for about $50 million.

1996

In March 1996 Charter acquired WIBV(AM) serving the St Louis area for between $1 million and $1.5 million.

2002

April 2002: Bresnan Communications, based in Purchase, N.Y., pays $735 million for the former AT&T Broadband Rocky Mountain systems from Comcast, based in Philadelphia.

2010

June 2010: Cablevision Systems Corp., based in Long Island, buys Bresnan Communications for $1.37 billion for the company that serves customers in Montana, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado.

2011

May 2011: Cablevision rebrands the Bresnan system as Optimum West.

2013

February 2013: Charter Communications, now based in Stamford, Conn., buys Optimum West, formerly known as Bresnan Communications, for $1.625 billion.
