Brewer history

The first bottles were capped in June 1991, and featured a neighbor's watercolor paintings on the labels.

In 1992 the Brewers won 92 games and finished second to the eventual-champion Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East division, but 12 consecutive losing seasons followed.

By 1994 NBB's annual output had grown to 28,000 31-gallon barrels, and the firm had begun offering public tours of its plant.

1995: Company moves into a new $5 million brewery.

In 1996 NBB experienced a minor controversy when it received a cease-and-desist letter from a small group of Belgian and Dutch Trappist Abbeys that objected to the use of the term "Trappist" in one of its beers' names.

In 1997 Hambleton Ales gained the coveted award of CAMRA Champion Winter Beer of Britain for its Nightmare brand.

In 1998, the Brewers joined the National League.

1999 saw NBB make headlines when it signed a contract with the city of Fort Collins to buy only wind-generated electricity to operate its plant for a ten-year period.

In the fall of 2000 NBB sponsored a promotional six-city "Tour de Fat," a traveling festival that offered community bike rides, a Cruiser Bike Olympics, and a children's activity area.

The team began playing in a new stadium, Miller Park (later called American Family Field), in 2001.

The light, kaffir leaf-flavored Loft was introduced in August 2002, and early the next year the company announced that it would import a two-year aged Belgian beer to be blended 50/50 with a brew of its own.

Created in 2003, The Milwaukee Brewers Alumni Association consists of more than 600 players who were members of the Milwaukee Brewers or the Seattle Pilots during their Major League career.

On January 16, 2004, Selig announced that his ownership group was putting the team up for sale, to the great relief of many fans who were unhappy with the team’s lackluster performance and poor management by his daughter, Wendy Selig-Prieb, over the previous decade.

However, one of the more memorable things the man-behind-the-gargoyle has pitched, thrown or tossed was the “first pitch” at a San Diego Padres game back in 2006 at the then-new Petco Park.

Establishing a brewery on the site of Berlin’s historic Marienpark gasworks complex has been quite an endeavor, and although construction won’t be completed until March 2016, being able to share our first pilot brews with Europe was a momentous celebration for us.

Following the team’s appearance in the NLCS, Fielder departed via free agency, and Braun became embroiled in a steroid scandal, helping the Brewers to fall from contention until the team unexpectedly rallied to a near miss of playoff qualification in 2017.

Milwaukee built on that momentum in 2018, winning an NL-best 96 games and advancing to the third league championship series in franchise history, where they lost in a seven-game series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team lost the Wild Card Series.
