The next two articles, by Julie Bower, and by David Higgins, Steve Toms and Moshfique Uddin, examine the consequences of the dismantling of the ‘traditional’ structure of the UK beer industry following the Beer Orders of 1989.

Then, when Y2K came around (sans anarchy and apocalypse), the 2000 batch of Old Guardian took a silver medal out of a pool of sixty-five barleywine entries at the Great American Beer Festival.
The team began playing in a new stadium, Miller Park (later called American Family Field), in 2001.
In 2001 the company introduced a new cherry-flavored beer.
2001: Expansion of plant to triple capacity begins.
The light, kaffir leaf-flavored Loft was introduced in August 2002, and early the next year the company announced that it would import a two-year aged Belgian beer to be blended 50/50 with a brew of its own.

Establishing a brewery on the site of Berlin’s historic Marienpark gasworks complex has been quite an endeavor, and although construction won’t be completed until March 2016, being able to share our first pilot brews with Europe was a momentous celebration for us.
