Duties & ResponsibilitiesThis position may require travel.The person filling this position will be a representative for the client supervising the structures (as defined below) portion of the project, committed to making certain that the project progresses efficiently.For purposes of this position, structures are defined as bridges, retaining walls, sound walls, MSE walls, culverts or any other structures related to roadway or highway construction projects.This position verifies that inspection and documentation on the contract relating to roadway structures is generated and filed in general conformance to the Caltrans Construction Manual, the Local Assistance Procedures manual and/or any Caltrans Bridge-related guidelines. In addition, the candidate must have experience working in a team environment. Candidate must have the ability to direct and supervise field construction activities and staff, office engineering, inspection, materials testing, field contract administration, and to act as liaison with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, design professionals and regulatory agencies.Under the supervision of the assigned Project Manager or Resident Engineer, the Assistant Structure Representative uses his/her engineering judgment to evaluate project structures construction in compliance with the plans, specifications, standard plans, and standard specifications with an emphasis on the structures portion of the project work.The Structure Representative works directly with and, generally, reports directly to the Resident Engineer, providing technical expertise required to properly administer the structural portion of the roadway work.Read and interpret project plans, specifications, permits, and other pertinent contract documents.Generate and/or review contract change orders and requests for information relating to structure items.Review submittals from the contractor relating to structure items.Ability to properly administer the contract's structures work.Verify documentation on the contract relating to structures is generated and filed in proper order.Supervision experience of field staff.Demonstrated knowledge of the pertinent contract documents and references specific to the project.Ability to understand, interpret and make sound engineering determinations regarding the contract documents relating to structure work.Proven resolution and or facilitation of discrepancies or problems with the contract documents relating to structures and issues arising from structure field operations.Coordinates and/or performs quality testing of the structure work

We're seeking a Principal Bridge Engineer for our Construction Management & Inspection Services team in the Central Region.

This position will report to the Sector Manager and requires 15+ years of experience in construction management of highway, bridge, transit/rail and/or aviation projects, including delivery of complex projects for transportation agency clients.The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, assisting with managing construction projects and expanding the company's existing Construction Management and Construction Engineering and Inspection (CM/CI) group. Specifically, this position will focus on the development of a CM/CI practice in long span & major river crossing structures throughout the central region. The position can be based remotely in the Central Region and may require managing multiple projects and personnel and temporary and/or long-term travel to project sites outside the immediate Chicago metropolitan area as required by project pursuits and contracts awarded.
Responsibilities
Assist the Sector Manager with the following: Development and implementation of a strategic plan to secure CM/CEI contracts Tracking and develop new client leads positioning the company for contracts as a prime or a major part of a strategic team Work with marketing production staff to respond to RFP's and SOQ's Serve as Resident Engineer/Project Manager on one or more construction management and construction inspection projects. Provide close coordination of work with agency/owner, contractor, utilities, and other stakeholders as required. Implement established project management, construction engineering and inspection safety procedures and guidelines on project(s). Follow prescribed Quality Assurance/Quality Control procedures. Assist in recruiting and identifying and hiring talented CM/CI personnel. Give direction to CM/CI staff. Support in staff development. Present at industry events and prepare submittals for industry awards and publications. Active participation in industry professional societies including committee participation. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, with advanced degrees considered a plus.
Registered Professional Engineer required, advanced certifications such as Certified Construction Manager (CCM) considered a plus.
15+ years of experience in construction management of highway, bridge, transit/rail and/or aviation projects, including delivery of complex projects for transportation agency clients.
Experience must also include successful managment of a team of multi-disciplined staff of project managers, office engineers, and field engineers/inspectors.
Demonstrated and successful history of leading/managing multi-million dollar construction contracts.
Ability to travel, temporarily and/or long-term, to project sites as required by project pursuits and contracts awarded. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
