The engineer will be part of the electric transmission design team, remotely, as well as representing Westwood Engineering on a multi-year construction project in Connecticut. This position provides a motivated candidate the opportunity to fast-track their understanding of Engineering & Construction of high-voltage power line systems. The engineer will work directly with construction contractors and the client to ensure compliance with client procedures, design standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and safety code requirements. The engineer will work closely with experienced Transmission Engineers at Westwood who will offer support and guidance on complex design concerns as they arise. In addition to the roles and responsibilities for the construction project, the engineer will support engineering and design efforts in Westwood's Wind, Solar, and Power markets remotely. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients. Duties And Responsibilities • Works under the project lead engineer to support clients and construction contractors on a multi-year High-voltage transmission line build. • Promptly collect, organize, and respond to RFIs from contractors and clients. Coordinate with the lead engineer on more complex RFIs and design changes. • Acquire and apply basic knowledge and understanding of NESC, ASCE, and IEEE standards necessary to design transmission lines. • Prepare and review design documents for construction, including plan & profiles, structure load tree drawings, structure framing, bill of materials, and foundations design drawings. • Acquire and apply geotechnical engineering practices to understand and interpret reports and extrapolate information needed for foundation design software including L-PILE and MFAD. • Acquire and apply basic knowledge in the use of PLS-CADD, including all applicable programs of the suite. • Use quiet periods in construction to perform aspects of designing high-voltage overhead transmission lines for other projects. • Understand client interests and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work. • Eagerness to work in a fast-paced environment and adequately address the needs of the client and construction contractors. • Demonstrate ability to work with limited supervision and guidance to execute and meet multiple project commitments. • Understand & meet schedule and quality requirements. • Actively coordinate with internal and external team members on transmission line projects. • Attend construction meetings. • Travel to project sites during the duration of construction to gather data and interface with clients. • Ability to work remotely when the project does not require a presence on site. For Preferred Consideration (Not required): • An active EIT Certificate in the US is strongly preferred. • 1-3 years of relevant experience as a Transmission Line Engineer in consulting or utility environment. • Experience with NESC, ASCE, and IEEE standards • Proficiency with AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, MFAD, Vibrec, Vortx, L-Pile • A proven ability to work with limited supervision and guidance to execute and meet multiple project commitments.
