Many patients often find needles and the idea of having their blood drawn frightening, so it takes a skilled Phlebotomy Technician to put the patient at ease while obtaining all the required specimens. **A caregiver in this position works days, from 6:30am-3:00pm or 4:00am-12:30pm.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Perform blood collection for extended care clients and provide service to their residents, (primarily geriatric). + Perform specimen processing and send-out tasks, such as accessioning and packaging for transport. + Follow proper protocol when collecting samples, such as introducing yourself, verifying patient identity, collecting specimens for all tests listed on the requisition, clarifying tests, labeling specimens, transporting and centrifuging. + Provide STAT, scheduled and routine orders. + Ensure all current demographic and insurance information is obtained and verified. + Check appropriate paperwork for each test, patient and/or client. + Complete and submit appropriate administrative paperwork, such as time and mileage reports. + Follow proper laboratory safety procedures. + Be flexible to work a varied schedule as required, including early morning and afternoon shifts, and travel to patient locations. + Carry an on-call pager on assigned weekdays and every other weekend during the hours of 4AM - midnight, answer the pager within 15-30 minutes, arrive at the home within an hour, collect stat draws and have the specimen back to the lab within 2 hours from the time receipt of call. + Adhere to HIPAA guidelines. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + High school diploma or GED + One year of current phlebotomy experience + Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (before hire or will obtain within three months of hire) + A current, valid driver's license and personal liability insurance coverage with the limits of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per accident on bodily injury and $100,000 in property liability damage + Experience and proficiency in blood collection from all patients + Experience in handling and transporting laboratory specimens, laboratory safety, medical terminology and laboratory waste management + Working knowledge of clinical laboratory and tests performed Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Graduation certificate from a formal accredited phlebotomy program + ASCP phlebotomy certification + Two years of current phlebotomy experience **Physical Requirements:** + Requires frequent standing and walking. + Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements. + Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors. + This position is primarily traveling in nature. + The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasional carrying of objects up to 20 pounds. + Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. + Working irregular hours including On-call hours. + Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions. + Pushing and pulling heavy objects. + Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing. **Personal Protective Equipment:** + Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment. **Pay Range** Minimum hourly: $19.25 Maximum hourly: $29.30 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
