1800

The legendary Bristol sign constructed in the early 1800's is a historic landmark.

1888

In January 1888 Pelusso, Narduzzo and La Cava began fishing for the hotel in the boat Lucaro.

In March 1888 a French company was authorised to build the Rambla Bristol.

1903

The hotel, opened in 1903 was the biggest and the most luxurious in town.

1909

A 1909 guide to Odessa (by Moskvich) noted that this is one of the best hotels in the city with a restaurant that has a good reputation.

1916

In 1916 (to the left from the entrance of the hotel, on the 1 st floor) pastry shop «Astron» was opened.

1918

When Germans left Taganrog, 2nd floor of the hotel became the place of location of main department of general Denikin army. It was Taganrog where Ukraine government moved to in 1918.

1923

In 1923, Hippolyte Jammet purchased Jules de Castellane's former property.

1925

The hotel opened in April 1925, when the Roaring Twenties were in full swing: it was the heyday of Josephine Baker, Sydney Bechet and the Charleston.

Here, in the birthplace of country music, past and present connect in a striking 1925 architectural landmark turned first-ever boutique hotel.

Constructed in 1925 by Hardin Reynolds (son of Civil War veteran and nephew of Bristol’s tobacco mogul R.J. Reynolds), the Reynolds Arcade was initially built as a hotel, but became a professional office space known as the Executive Plaza.

1928

After the revolution, in 1928, Bristol Hotel was restored and renamed as Krasnaya (Red) Hotel in honour of the Red Army, the Red Banner as the symbol of revolution, and the Red Square in Moscow.

1940

In June 1940, Le Bristol Paris became the home of the American Embassy and American nationals living in Paris.

1943

The new government that emerged from the 1943 Argentine coup d'état took moves to reduce rents and make eviction much harder, and set up a vacation office.

1944

The closing of the Bristol in June 1944 symbolized the end of the belle époque.

1946

The city's principal theatre company, the Bristol Old Vic, was founded in 1946 as an offshoot of the Old Vic company in London.

1947

In 1947 it was twinned with Bordeaux and Hanover, the first post-war twinning of British and German cities.

1954

In 1954, the first Pierre Cardin boutique opened at 118 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Christian Lacroix, Louboutin and many others followed, and famous clients flooded through the doors of Le Bristol Paris: Konrad Adenauer, Kim Novak, Rita Hayworth and Charlie Chaplin.

1962

In 1962, the authoritative American travel guide 'Fielding's Travel Guide to Europe' ranked Le Bristol Paris in top position, securing a prestigious reputation in the USA that continues today.

1978

In 1978, Rudolf Oetker, founder of the German industrial group Oetker and already the owner of Brenners Park-Hotel and Spa in Baden-Baden and Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d'Antibes, acquired Le Bristol Paris.

1981

Founded in 1981, Bristol began business as Harvey Hotel Company, the owner and operator of The Harvey Hotel, located in Dallas, Texas.

1989

Late in 1989, the company acquired The Sheraton Hotel in Houston and renovated it, converting it to Harvey Suites.

1995

Phase one of the United Inns renovation program was completed in October 1995.

Prior to joining Harvey Hotel Company (the company changed its name to Bristol Hotel Company in 1995), Kline worked for Laventhol & Horwath, a prestigious consulting firm.

1996

In March 1996, the last of the $130 million earmarked for the renovation of United Inns was invested in the redevelopment of eight more United Inns properties.

On 1 April 1996, it once again regained its independence and county status, when the county of Avon was abolished and Bristol became a Unitary Authority.

1997

Additional acquisitions in the years ahead appeared assured, as the company narrowed its sights on the $15 to $20 billion of acquisition targets it had identified by the end of 1997.

1998

In February 1998, the company increased the number of hotel rooms under its control 14 percent in a $100 million transaction that included 20 midwestern Holiday Inns.

2000

Public transport in the city consists largely of its bus network, provided by First Group. (PDF) Since 2000 the city council has included a light rail system in its Local Transport Plan, but has so far been unable to fund the project.

2001

The city has two League football clubs: Bristol Rugby rugby union club, which has won promotion to the Guinness Premiership, a first-class cricket side, half marathon, and in 2001 played host to the World Half Marathon Championships.

2005

Local support of fair trade issues was recognised in 2005 when Bristol was granted Fairtrade City status.Bristol City Council, 2005.

The Council has long been dominated by the Labour Party, but recently the Liberal Democratic Party has grown strong in the city and took minority control of the Council in 2005.

2006

A distinctive dialect of English is spoken in Bristol (known colloquially as Brizzle or Bristle). Accessed 10 April 2006.

2007

In 2007, Le Bristol Paris acquired the adjoining building on the avenue Matignon.

2013

In 2013 Bar du Bristol was elected best bar in the world.
