Anesthesia Technician
Schedule: 1:30p - 10:00p; holidays, weekends, on call, call back as needed
Specific Responsibilities
Under limited direct supervision:
Patient Care Support (20%)
Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia including: preparation of anesthesia equipment prior to the patient's arrival, placement of anesthesia monitors, ensuring the cleanliness of anesthesia equipment, ensuring availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies and the set-up of medications and supplies where applicable
Continuously communicate with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs and anesthesia technologists to ensure their needs are met throughout the day
Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and the placement of central line catheters
Advanced Surgical Support (20%)
Operate the cell-saver machine, keep track of lab reports, and participate in cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, trauma, and other advanced surgical cases
Work directly with service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty
Provide on-call coverage
Equipment Maintenance (20%)
Provide primary support in ensuring that the anesthesia equipment is in good working order and preventive maintenance is completed
Set up and operate sophisticated equipment and perform advanced troubleshooting
Serve as the key resource person in using and maintaining specialized equipment
Training and Development (15%)
Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in the development and implementation of in-service training programs
Assist in training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist
Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting (15%)
• Perform anesthesia equipment set up and troubleshooting such as testing Infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors, calibrating anesthesia machines, and attaching fiberoptic bronchoscopes to the video monitor
Room Setup and Support (5%)
Set-up rooms between cases, set-up carts throughout the day and provides full service set up at the end of the day
Work with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment
Perform set-up and support of ectopic procedures for anesthesia care ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures
Additional Responsibilities (5%)
Provide back up to shift supervisor in his/her absence due to vacation or illness
Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager
Required Qualifications
BLS
Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Tech
Preferred Qualifications
A four year college education, including related technical training; or a two year college education which included technical training closely related to this position and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other nationally recognized professional certifying body preferred
Additional Requirements
Two (2) Year's Experience highly desired
