Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide high quality programming and implement curriculum that supports positive and age appropriate leaning experiences for children.
Maintain constant supervision of classroom at all times and is responsible for the health, welfare, and safety of the children.
Interact and engage with the children, encourage their involvement in classroom experiences.
Provide and maintain a safe, caring, and welcoming classroom that is neat and clean and attractive.
Work with Program Director and Program Assistant to ensure that adequate classroom supplies, materials, resources and equipment are available.
Conduct Brigance screening and High Scope Assessment of Childhood
Observation and Recording (COR) data for the assigned age group/classroom to ensure the obtainment and maintenance of highest quality credentialing.
Maintain daily child attendance and educational records/files of work and progress.
Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development training/workshops
Program Specific Responsibilities:
Understand and is mindful of agency's policies and procedures regarding personal appearance, dress code, use of body language and tone of voice impact the environment, children and families
Plan and complete weekly classroom planning documents, maintain observation logs and other documentations
Conduct weekly planning meeting with Teacher Assistant and Teacher's Aide to ensure that curriculum planning aligns with daily classroom experiences indoor/outdoor
Plan and implement education field trips
Ensure effective communication with parents through Parent Orientation, Parent-Teacher conferences, home visits and informal discussion of their child/ren's progress

Position Summary:
Education and Youth Development programs provide after-school learning opportunities to elementary and middle school children. During the school year, we offer homework help, enrichment programs and activities from 2:15 pm - 6:00 pm. Teachers for the enrichment program are expected to lead a class of 20-30 students daily. We open and run holiday camp from 8am-6pm for 13 days per school year when DOE is closed.
Responsibilities:
* Implement hands-on multi-sensory and project-based lessons and activities to children, which are provided in the context of academically stimulating lessons based on the thematic curriculum.
* Submit lesson plans to the program site director and Education Specialist for approval according to submission schedule.
* Plan lessons for field trips related to thematic curriculum and provide supervision to students during field trips.
* Participate in curriculum and other professional development trainings as required.
* Use creative / innovative teaching strategies that enhance and encourage an increase in literacy skills, social-emotional learning, arts, and STEM.
* Work with the program site director and other staff to develop and plan culminating event presentations that will showcase learning and creativity.
* Engage and communicate with parents and families as required by the site director.
* Provided effective supervision to 20 students during classroom activities and transitions.
* Monitor authorized parent / guardian pick up of children.
* Direct and work with assistant teacher.
* Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings as required
* Assist with development of funding proposals as needed
* Other tasks as may be required.
Qualifications Required:

RESPONSIBILITIES

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN EARLY HEAD START TEACHER
As an Early Head Start Teacher, you provide a safe and healthy learning environment that is welcoming to infants, toddlers, and their parents. Each shift, you come to class energized and ready to take on the day. You provide an environment that supports the emerging skills of young children in all aspects of their learning as you utilize the High Scope Infant Toddler curriculum model. Collaborating with other staff members, you conduct classroom planning sessions to develop both individual and weekly lesson plans.
Nurturing and caring, you assist with feeding, outside walks, and general care. You lead a balanced program of child-initiated and adult-directed activities, including at least 45 minutes of free choice time and 30 minutes of outdoor time daily. Taking each child's emotional, physical, and cognitive development into account, you provide supervision utilizing the primary caregiving (PITC) model. You plan for transitions so that they occur in a predictable and unrushed manner that helps the children feel safe. Organized and efficient, you ensure that all procedures are followed, including ongoing visits, developmental screenings, COR assessments, individual plans, and parent conferences. It warms your heart to provide early childhood education, and you love teaching these sweet children in this child development position!
QUALIFICATIONS
A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential that is specific to infant and toddler development or an associate's degree in early childhood education
Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to lift 50 pounds and the agility required to move at childrens' levels including bending, squatting, and kneeling
An associate degree in early childhood education is preferred. Two years or more of experience working with infants or toddlers would be a plus.
