Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Weekend School Security Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment. With numerous events, visitors, and community members on campus, the Supervisor ensures that security operations run smoothly, risks are anticipated and managed, and that everyone is welcomed onto campus while proper access control and safety standards are maintained.
In this leadership role, the Supervisor oversees weekend security staff, ensures coverage across campus, and upholds the school's safety protocols with professionalism and consistency. The position is responsible for fostering positive relationships with students, families, staff, and outside event coordinators, creating a secure atmosphere built on trust, visibility, and strong communication.
The Weekend School Security Supervisor is expected to exercise sound judgment, respond proactively to emerging issues, and support the overall functioning of the school by guiding their team, coordinating with campus partners, and reinforcing a culture of safety. The role reports to the Director of Security and operates with a high level of autonomy to keep the campus protected and running effectively on weekends.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Weekend School Security Supervisor at Avenues will oversee the following operations:
Lead and supervise the weekend security team, ensuring proper staffing, performance, and adherence to school protocols.
Oversee campus safety during weekend events, including monitoring entrances, key areas, and access control.
Respond proactively to incidents or security concerns, exercising independent judgment and escalating issues as needed.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students, staff, visitors, and event coordinators, fostering a welcoming and respectful environment.
Coordinate with school personnel and security staff to ensure smooth operations, effective communication, and proper incident documentation.
Support the logistical needs of weekend events, including escorting students or visitors and ensuring adherence to campus policies.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Candidates should have most, if not all, of the following:
Minimum of ten years of experience in a law enforcement-related field NYPD preferred
Minimum five years of experience working in a school setting
Minimum five years of experience as a supervisor
Current FDNY Certificate of Fitness T89 Fire Life Safety Director
Current New York State security guard license or New York State armed guard license preferred
Courtesy, professionalism, and respect when dealing with others
Ability to react well under pressure, handle multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism, assess the situation, and determine if school safety or security is in jeopardy
Sufficient human relations skills to resolve confrontation, affect the behavior of others, and convey a positive image of the school
Ability to observe accurately, recalling faces, names, descriptive characteristics, and facts of incidents and places.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Ability to administer first aid in emergencies (training will be provided)
Sensitivity to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons

Roles and Responsibilities:
Protection of Life & Property
Patrols the facilities both inside and outside.
Remains highly visible during patrols
Is observant and engages with suspicious persons at the facility.

Maintains continuous contact via phone or radio with subordinates and management

Escorts individual in a timely manner as needed to ensure their safety.
Is observant for unauthorized activities.

Performs Fire and Safety Checks
Inspects fire extinguishers and other safety equipment
Inspects various directional and warning signs about the buildings and reports any need for replacement.
Inspects exit signs and reports any bulb replacement needed.
Keeps well informed and conducts all fire, safety and disaster drills. Reports results to supervisor upon completion.
Investigates incident of injuries involving visitors and ensures a report is prepared.
Takes proper action to correct safety and security shortcomings noted.
Check the outer portion of the buildings for safety hazards.
Inspects all elevators (where applicable), fire exits, and interior escape stairwells to ensure that there are no obstructions and are well lighted. Reports any discrepancies.
Enforces all Federal, State and Local Laws, as well as all hospital Policies and Procedures
Conduct preliminary investigations of complaints and incidents.
Answers all disturbances or criminal offense calls as requested.
Uses diplomacy to insure all persons are not offended or alienated.
Monitors compliance with CARS, OASAS, and CHS safety and security procedures.
Facility Equipment Maintenance
Basic mechanical ability to make minor repairs.
Analyze malfunctions and identify staff that can make repairs.
Attempts to repair before calling for assistance when appropriate.
Miscellaneous Activities
Inspection of facility lighting.
Inspection of doors and stair wells.
Security of entrance doors.
Interdepartmental support.
Education and Development
Completes all mandatory education requirements.
Attends departments, onsite and off-site in-service as required.

The Security Officer provides security and safety for the patients, employees, volunteers, physicians, and visitors of the Hospital. The security officer provides security and assistance to residents and visitors entering or exiting the building. Ensures safety and general well-being of staff, residents and building mechanicals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Greets and assists residents and visitors as they enter and leave the building.
Answers and direct all incoming calls in a professional manner.
Screens visitors as they enter the building, asks visitors to sign in and notifies residents or employees of their arrival, and has employees without a Valley Manor ID sign in.
Performs thorough security and safety rounds of both Valley Manor and Assisted Living every two to four hours, based on established schedules.
Reports any irregularities or issues to Executive Director or Security Team Leader, and creates incident reports to be distributed to Security Team Leader, Executive Director, and the Operations Manager.
Monitors security cameras for any irregularities in and around facility grounds.
Ensures all exterior main entrances and emergency exits are clear of snow and ice. Puts down salt at employee walkway ramps, steps to assisted living, glass door Gallery B stair exit, and main entrance, portico as needed.
Locks down elevators on 1st floor and notifies fire department in the event of an alarm.
Notifies police in the event of theft, break in, or suspicious behavior reported by staff or residents, or observed in person, or viewed on surveillance cameras.
Respond to emergency situations. Administers emergency first aid to the resident and or/calls 911 if the situation warrants it.
Ensures office and storage areas are secure and brings any safety concerns to the Security Team Leader's attention.
Responds according to policy and procedures to any and all health call alerts that come into the front desk. Logs any departures and returns in notebook and also notes on incident report.
