Base pay in range will be determined by applicant's skills and experience. Role is also eligible for team based bonus opportunities. Temporary associates are not benefits eligible but may participate in the company's 401(k) program.

Job Summary
The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Patient & Visitor Interactions /Customer Service/Hourly Rounding: In this role, the PCT will interact with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility. Performs purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
Patient Safe Handling/Ambulation/Repositioning: In this role, the PCT will learn patient safe handling skills to allow the PCT to assist in the ambulation of patents and to be able to assist the nursing staff in the transferring, lifting and /or repositioning of patient utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.
Basic Nursing Care- ADLs: In this role, the PCT will provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN. Follows policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety.
Admission/Discharge/Transfers: In this role, the PCT will assist with room set up, welcoming of new patients/ room orientation, discharging and/or transfer of patients. Provides patient/family orientation to room and hospital according to hospital practice. Transports/escorts patient to area of destination ensuring safety; regularly updates patients.
Procedures and Treatments: In this role, the PCT will accurately complete and document patient care activities including: ADL, vital signs, weights, (actual weight on admission or as ordered), intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy and procedure. Effectively explain and perform procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse). Notifies appropriate personnel of response and questions. Collects non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens. Accurately performs point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse. Promotes and maintains skin integrity by reporting patient problems as they occur, to the appropriate team member.
Care Companion/Sitter/Observer: In this role, the PCT may be asked by the RN or LPN to remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
Department Specific Tasks: In this role, the PCT will support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment etc. Performs unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth. These indirect patient care activities are identified in each nursing department.

What you will do:
Provides care to patients on assigned nursing unit under the direction of a Clinical Nurse Manager.
Communicates effectively with patient, families, visitors, and members of the health care team in a respectful manner.
Understands how to use and uses standard precautions with all patients as well special precautions that may be ordered for the patient based on the pathology diagnosed. This includes the use of all personal protective equipment.
Assists with patient hygiene based on the level assistance the patient requires.
Assists with meeting the elimination needs of the patient which includes helping patients to the bathroom or use bedside commode
Sets up the patient room for a new admission by placing new ECG cables and leads on the counter along with SPO2 cable (critical care) and disposable blood pressure cuff
Assists the RN in admitting new patients by attaching the ECG cables and pulse oximetry and taking initial vital signs. This includes patients with Covid-19.
Assists in providing for nutritional needs of the patient by helping them eat, if needed.
Assists with ambulating and range of motion for the patient.
Follows policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety.
Follows safe patient handling guidelines and demonstrates proper use of lifting and other patient safety equipment.
Accurately documents vital sign monitoring (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure) as well the results of point of care blood glucose monitor (Accu-Check) in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR).
Properly cleans all multi-use equipment between care of patients.
Uses standard fall and high risk precautions on all patients based on need and direction by the RN.
Performs rounding and repositioning with assigned patients every two hours.
Regularly communicates with the RN regarding any changes in the patient's vital signs or any observations of the patient/family and any tasks assigned.
Maintains clinical competency which is tested each year by Nursing Education
Performs 12-lead ECG on patients as directed by the RN
Proactively organizes, and stocks nursing unit with patient care supplies.
Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
Empty, measure and record output in all Foley bags/colostomy bags as directed by the RN and at the end of the assigned shift.
Gather all required linen before beginning the bathing or cleaning of patient.
Perform Accu-Check quality controls daily at Midnight
In along with housekeeping, empty trash from patient rooms, nursing station, hallway, medication room and store room at the end of the shift.
Assists nurses in admitting patient, which includes setting up the room, transferring patient to bed.
If no PCT scheduled for the next shift check vital signs on all patients at the end of shift (0700 or 1900).
Give hand-off report to oncoming PCT before leaving at the end of shift.

Notifies appropriate personnel of response and questions. Collects non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens. Accurately performs point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse. Promotes and maintains skin integrity by reporting patient problems as they occur, to the appropriate team member.
Care Companion/Sitter/Observer: In this role, the PCT may be asked by the RN or LPN to remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
Department Specific Tasks: In this role, the PCT will support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment etc. Performs unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth. These indirect patient care activities are identified in each nursing department.

What you will do:
Orders special care equipment for the patient utilizing unit protocol and hospital computer information systems. Analyzes documents to ensure department specific requirements have been met prior to entering equipment orders or sending appropriate documents to HIM for scanning. Continually updates electronic medical information vital for patient care. When applicable ensures unit specific patient charges are entered into the appropriate information system.
Triages physician and inter-department questions and resolves or refers to appropriate staff as needed. Performs customer service support utilizing the AIDET approach, answering telephones and may escort patients to treatment areas.
Provides patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Assists patients with ADLs, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc.
Obtains patient temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, saturation of peripheral oxygen reading, intake and output checks, BG checks (POC), and reports abnormalities to the appropriate individual. Performs procedures as directed by the RN such as thermal applications, perineal care, removal of IVs and Foley catheters, emptying of foley bags, application of restraints, backrubs, etc. Collects specimens such as urine, feces, sputum, and delivers as necessary.
Documents basic patient care, supply and equipment orders (i.e. specimen collections, basic labs, diet orders, EKG's) as directed per unit protocol, into the electronic medical record
Transports medications, which are not controlled substances. May be authorized to access secured medication storage locations to perform job related functions.
Assists nursing and clerical staff with admitting, discharging, transferring, ambulating and transporting patients as directed. Obtains confirmation of diagnostic or medical appointments.
May perform duties of an Observation Assistant as needed.
Provides administrative support including photocopying, electronic transmission of medical information to physicians, contacting physicians' offices, pharmacy, and coordination with other departments to facilitate patient care and record keeping. Monitors printers, facsimile machines, and tube stations and distributes information to team members as appropriate.
What you will need:
Education: High school diploma required or 5 years' experience as a CNA/PCT with 3 years' minimum experience in an acute care setting.
Certification: Completion of an Accredited Certified Nursing Assistance course, EMT or paramedics training course, or current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with completion of at least one major clinical medical or surgical rotation required.
Current CPR certification from American Heart Association.
Data entry or order entry experience on a computer preferred.

Responsibilities
Based on state regulations and completion of required training/certification, Medication Aides/Techs will administer or assist with self-administration of medication and treatments as prescribed by the health care provider and observe/report responses to your supervisor.
Certified Medication Aides/Techs make sure the medication supply room is organized and clean, assist with medication cart audits, and provide accurate counts of all medications. You will also communicate with pharmacies to coordinate medication delivery.
Based on state regulation, completion of training/certification is required.
