BDS is a public defense office representing low-income New Yorkers in criminal, family, immigration, and civil legal matters. BDS' Criminal Defense Practice zealously defends people who are accused of a crime in Brooklyn, fighting to protect the individual rights of clients' and minimize harm from involvement with the criminal legal system. BDS' staff consists of attorneys, social workers, investigators, paralegals, and administrative professionals who work collaboratively to bring about the best outcome for each client.
Under the direct supervision of a Supervising Attorney, attorneys defend clients against criminal charges in Brooklyn Criminal and Supreme Courts.
Responsibilities
Directly represent clients in Brooklyn Criminal and Supreme Courts from intake through dismissal, plea or trial.
Foster strong attorney/client relationships.
Work collaboratively on interdisciplinary case teams with social workers, investigators, paralegals and admins.
Participate in a rotation to staff court arraignment shifts on weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Prepare for and litigate hearings and trials in Criminal and Supreme Courts, as well as collateral administrative tribunals.
Prepare and argue written motions, argue in court regarding discovery, answer legal motions filed by the District Attorney's office and other legal written and oral arguments in cases assigned to the attorney.
Collaborate with other BDS staff from our housing, immigration, family defense and education practices to provide comprehensive assistance to clients.
Meet regularly with supervisor to review caseload, discuss case strategy, and prepare for trial.
Be an advisor to the client when decisions are made about the case.
Meet with family members or other support networks as client requests.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Admitted to practice in New York, or ability to become admitted.
Experience as a practicing public defender or other criminal defense experience.

This is an exempt, salaried position. The normal schedule is Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. The position is based at BDS's offices, and the courts located in Downtown Brooklyn. There is a three-day per week in-person requirement for all attorneys. Attorneys are also expected to handle all their own cases in court, as well as meet with clients as needed, even if that results in additional days in-person. (This generally results in more than three in-person days for most attorneys). Applicants should be aware that the in-person requirement is subject to change.
BDS determines salary on a pay scale based on education and experience. For this position there is a base salary range of $80,000-$157,261 depending on the applicant's education and experience. Under the general supervision of a Supervising Attorney, attorneys collaborate with social workers, paralegals and administrative staff to provide comprehensive legal advocacy and representation to clients.
Responsibilities
Attend training program in Fall of 2026.
Develop a caseload over time in which the law graduate/attorney will provide comprehensive representation to parents and caretakers facing the removal of children from intake through the life of a case in Brooklyn Family Court as well as occasional final appeals with the assistance of the Law and Appeals unit.
Work on an interdisciplinary team which includes social workers and paralegals to advance the interests of the client.
Pick up cases in intake, which is the first appearance for the parties. Attorneys generally maintain the cases they are assigned at intake for the life of the case.
Prepare for and litigate hearings and trials in Family Court, including emergency hearings seeking family reunification when appropriate.
Represent their clients in interim appeals.
Prepare and argue written motions seeking increased visitation, family reunification and to achieve other client goals.
Collaborate with BDS staff from our other practice areas, including criminal and civil to forward the goal of holistic services and to provide comprehensive legal assistance to clients.
Meet regularly with assigned supervisor to review cases and discuss case strategy.
Attend regular trainings and meetings to build litigation skills and develop substantive knowledge.

Chatham is looking for an Analyst to join its Investment Banking team, which provides strategic finance advisory and transaction execution services across a comprehensive range of debt, securitization, and equity capital to companies across all sectors. The team is comprised of capital markets experts who help clients raise capital, solve complex financing challenges, and achieve the best capital markets outcomes.
The ideal Analyst candidate will be intellectually curious with a willingness to work hard, learn quickly, and is process-oriented with strong attention to detail. A successful candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, have excellent communication skills, and bring prior investment banking or financial services experience to contribute from day one.
In this role you will:
Support the execution of live transactions and client mandates
Prepare presentation materials for clients and prospects
Research various industries, companies and market trends
Analyze financial statements and corporate SEC filings
Manage internal proprietary databases to support internal and client decision making
Assist in executing transactions, including due diligence and coordinating with external parties and client teams
Other duties and projects as assigned

In contributing to a myriad of projects, the Investment Banking Analyst will enable the greater Capital Advisory team to provide unparalleled capital markets expertise and exceptional client service. The analyst will work under the guidance of the Investment Banking Associates to support all functions of the team, giving this position the opportunity to grow and hone a variety of banking skillsets.
Contributors to your success:
Ideal candidates have at least 1 year in an investment banking, debt capital markets, or a related financial services role and
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Self-starter mentality with superior work ethic and the ability to learn new concepts quickly
Ability to effectively manage of multiple workstreams while ensuring a high level of accuracy
Superior analytical and technical capabilities
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Familiarity with major data services (Bloomberg, Pitchbook, Capital IQ, etc.)
Previous experience in credit or financial statement analysis
The ability to work with large amounts of data and understand causal relationships
Willingness to obtain, or have obtained, FINRA registration (Series 79)
