Assists students during classroom activities, lunch, physical education, while being transported to and from school activities, and all other school activities.

Assists teachers, counselors, staff, parents, probation officers, and agencies by providing a safe learning environment for at-risk students who are in a juvenile court and/or community school or community day school. Combines instruction support, and tutoring to students in a strictly monitored setting.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities
Provide instructional support in core academic and vocational subjects to students; prepare and may develop age- and grade-appropriate instructional aids and exercises to support the subject matter being taught.
May perform student intakes; proctor and conduct state-mandated assessments of students to establish baselines, determine academic needs and placement, and measure progress; score objective tests; keep appropriate records, using electronic student information systems; ensure confidentiality of student information.
Assist with daily screening for weapons, banned substances, and paraphernalia; escort students going from one location to another; monitor student activity in and between classroom, lunchroom, restrooms, and recreational areas throughout the school day, including dismissal time; monitor classroom activities during brief absence of a teacher.
Observe, monitor, and redirect the behavior of students within approved procedures; reinforce behavior modification techniques determined by the teacher; develop and use incentives as positive reinforcement; document behavioral incidents and report them to site supervisor; participate in consultations with parents and staff on behavioral interventions for students; use appropriate discipline in accordance with school safety plan, school rules, and teacher's assessment.
As part of the instructional team: support communication with parents to facilitate students' success in a restorative justice environment; provide input to teachers and specialists on student performance, progress, and behavior; may participate in parent-teacher conferences; may be assigned to contact designated Probation officials when resolution cannot be reached with students and parents.

Duties and Responsibilities of Classroom Teachers
Classroom Teachers shall be evaluated by the site administrator or his/her designees on the basis of how their performance conforms to the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

7. To report promptly to the principal (or individual designated by the principal) any factors which prevent the full exercise of duties and responsibilities.
8. To keep abreast of current innovative educational practices and curriculum trends so as to be in a position to participate in policy-making processes and curriculum revision.
9. To enforce all rules governing the conduct of pupils as may be prescribed by the Superintendent and the Board of Education, as well as those developed cooperatively by the principal and the faculty, not in conflict with the Board of Education policy.
10. To work cooperatively with employees of the District and with the community.

Brief Description of Duties
We are seeking qualified lecturers to teach U.S. history courses on a part-time, temporary basis depending on department needs. Specific courses include HIST 15: Essentials of U.S. History and HIST 170S: American Identities & Institutions. HIST 15 is a 3-unit, lower-division survey course in U.S. history that fulfills the American Institutions graduation requirement (Area US1). HIST 170S is a 3 unit, upper-division survey course in U.S. history that fulfills the US1 requirement and also the Area S: Self, Society, and Equality in in SJSU Studies. Candidates should expect to teach in-person, on campus.
* Candidates with U.S. History teaching experience are preferred.
* Candidates must be prepared to teach courses as assigned by the department chair in accordance with course descriptions and General Education requirements.
* Candidates must create fully compliant syllabi and other course materials; conduct class sessions as scheduled; meet with students as required; use Canvas and other appropriate instructional technology; attend faculty and college meetings; maintain student records (enrollment, attendance, grades, and assessment); and follow all CSU and SJSU policies and guidelines.
* Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a student population of great diversity-including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation-through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
* Faculty shall organize all their classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), the official LMS provided for the SJSU community. Range salaries above are the anticipated monthly salary rate of full-time AY faculty--part-time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12). See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.

Employment Conditions
Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role (e.g., preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity and Title IX, health and safety). Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and CSU systemwide policy, the faculty member in this position will subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). Individuals designated as Campus Security Authorities are required to immediately report Clery incidents to the institution and to complete Clery Act training as determined by the University Clery Director. Questions regarding CSA designation and training can be sent to the Clery Director at ************************. The President may recommend or require compliance with safety measures that decrease the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission or illness and allows the core mission and activities of the campus to continue.
Conditional Offer
The work for this faculty position is located in the State of California and requires commuting to the campus. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Offers of employment are conditional, and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association. These provisions state the order in which available courses must be assigned to faculty, starting with tenure line faculty and ending with new lecturer appointees.

Compensation:
The starting teacher salary for 0 years of experience is $51,500. This role is eligible for various stipends based on certifications, credentials, and campus leadership ranging from $500-$4,000 each. We also offer opportunities and incentives through our Teacher Career Pathway with the potential to earn up to $10,000 in additional compensation. What You Bring -- Competencies
Qualifications:
High level of content-area proficiency as evidenced by teaching certification, field of study, or work-experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution required
Experience: Experience in a K-12 classroom setting strongly preferred
Licenses or Certifications: Holding or willing to pursue a Florida educator certification required
IDEA operates a certification program for non-certified IDEA teachers to gain certification while teaching
Knowledge and Skills:

What You'll Do -- Accountabilities
Responsibilities:
Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments to meet ambitious academic expectations
Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
Implement formal and informal assessments to track each individual student's progress and learning needs, adjust lesson plans accordingly and update gradebook weekly
Communicate students' progress with student and family on a weekly basis
Effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication and educational tool to improve student achievement and manage work related tasks.
Implement a clear and consistent behavior management system that aligns to campus- wide initiatives while developing students' character and sense of community in the classroom
Help shape and develop a school wide culture that fosters a productive and enthusiastic learning environment for each student
Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with students and families based on trust, understanding and respect for the communities in which they identify.
Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students' needs
Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before and after-school duties, and school wide meetings and functions
Engage in summer and year-long district, school and personal learning and development
Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
