Brown & Brown is looking for a Commercial Lines Claims Assistant to join our Commercial Lines team in Somers, NY!
Accept and handle all types of
Commercial Lines claims
for accounts assigned. Assist in servicing of consulting contracts. Provide prompt, accurate and courteous claim service to Profit Center's customers, both internal and external. Attend safety committee meetings. Coordinate annual training with carrier.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Acceptance of claims, making assignments to companies and /or independent services, discussions with insureds regarding coverage comparative negligence and processing of claims
Research and review coverage, leases, contracts and participate in discussions with Account Managers and Producers
Reading, analyzing and processing of legal paperwork
Monitor reserves, exposures and communicate with insurance carrier and clients
Provide assistance in claims management of our internal company claims
Maintain a diary system regarding first party losses, claims in subrogation and open claims
Complete reports as department policy dictates
Assist CSR's/Producers with claim information relating to renewals and marketing
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Insurance certification or equivalent.
NYS Broker's license or attainment thereof upon hire.
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Exceptional telephone demeanor
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
3-4 years' experience in a similar position
THIS IS A PART-TIME ROLE WITH EXPECTATIONS OF WORKING 25 HOURS PER WEEK ON A HYBRID SCHEDULE AT OUR SOMERS, NY OFFICE.

Essential Duties & Functions:
Use all available resources effectively to quickly locate internal procedures and NFIP/FEMA guidelines to ensure accuracy and adherence. This includes the NFIP FIM, OneSource and the School of Flood. Provide feedback to leadership for revisions.
Review and issue All NB applications, any occupancy, construction type and rating method.
Process and issue endorsements and invoices when applicable.
Process cancellations and invoices when applicable.
Any premium bearing tasks including URCs, renewals, and cash corrections. Research policy payment and refund history.
Make outgoing phone calls to agents to follow up on any missing documentation or discussion, as needed.
Take payments over the phone, as needed.
Provide support for phone calls and chats for Customer Care and/or Customer Experience when the business need arises.
Partner with other departments, agents, and carriers to resolve issues and address needs.
Competencies:
Strong customer service skills and a willingness to provide the best support for our customers in every interaction: phone calls, chats, emails and handling of all underwriting tasks.
Training in all levels of FEMA/NFIP underwriting.
Training with all policy administration systems (Hobbes/WIN), agent and insured websites, workflow management system (ImageRight), as well as phone and chat systems (Five9). As well as Workday for timecard and PTO management and intranet.
Have continued improvement to meet and maintain a quality review score of 85% or better.
Understanding of the Flood Insurance Manual and other standard resource materials including OneSource.
Ability to effectively communicate with professionalism and accuracy to both internal and external customers.
Aptitude to learn multiple computer systems.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite including MS Teams.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment to achieve common goals.
Teammate must be able to adapt in an ever changing, fast paced environment where priorities will shift, or delays may be encountered.
Stay current with all processing guidelines, FEMA updates. Teammates should also possess strong self-management skills, be trustworthy and adhere to all company policies of conduct while in the office or in a work from home environment.
The teammate must always maintain a professional and courteous demeanor, especially in difficult situations as well as treat all customers and teammates with professionalism and respect.

The Underwriting Department applies the knowledge of Allieds products, plan documents, underwriting manuals and computer systems. Must be proficient in all functions in Levels 1, 2 & 3 in accordance with department quality and quantity production standards.
Underwrite New Business according to parameter guidelines and determine eligibility of a group for health insurance based upon a review of all eligibility information that has been obtained.
Review Medical Load Report prepared by level 2, and evaluate appropriate medical risk.
Review Participation Worksheet and Group Eligibility prepared by level 2.
Review Current Carrier Bills and Renewal Rates and compare to census presented and Allied generated rates.
Conduct employer phone call and as needed contact individual applicants for additional health information and or clarification.
Create Self-Funded Accounts in AI.
Review monthly manual dental renewals, populate spreadsheet with rating recommendations to be approved by underwriting management.
High School graduate or equivalent.
One to two years related work experience or equivalent college education.
Certification in Medical Terminology I and II.
Ability to comprehend and interpret information directly from product brochures, certificates and insurance contracts.
Basic mathematics skills.
Minimum 4 years of office experience or equivalent college education.
Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
Very strong knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.

For Raleigh, NC-based candidates: This hybrid role requires working in our Raleigh office at least two days per week, with the flexibility to work from home the remaining three days.
For remote candidates within our footprint: You will work from your home office and collaborate with your team virtually, traveling to our Raleigh office for meetings and company events up to four times a year.
Your WORK as an Express Account Underwriter I will make a difference as you:
Review new business submissions and make final risk acceptability and pricing decisions within designated authority. For risks outside of authority the underwriter will analyze the risk and make appropriate recommendation to management.
Review endorsement requests and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to Agency Service Representatives (ASR) and agents accordingly.
Review renewals and make final decision on acceptability, terms & conditions and communicate to ASR and agents accordingly.
Order and screen miscellaneous reports needed in rating and underwriting processes, such as MVR's, Experian Reports, Loss Control Reports, etc.
Provide customer service support to our agents, handling various inquires and requests with some level of complexity.
Actively participate and drive territory goals.
Assist in training of other EAUs.
Conduct IT testing as required.
Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:
BA/BS Degree with 2 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Excellent Customer Service and Communication Skills - Internal and External.
Understands the fundamentals of insurance.
Strong PC (MS Office, Outlook) skills; knowledge of policy processing systems and imaging systems.
AU Completed along with starting CBIA and CISR or CRIS.

* Rate and prepare new or renewal quotes as directed by Underwriter
* Review and handle inspection recommendations and discrepancies
* Monitor various reports for consistency
* Potential for policy issuance and endorsement processing, including audits
* Assist in accounting procedures such as invoicing
* Data entry into multiple internet based systems
