Position Summary:
The Summer Camp Discovery Theatre Director is the creative leader of our summer theatre program, guiding rising 3rd-8th-grade campers through an immersive and engaging drama experience. This role oversees all aspects of the production from casting and rehearsals to costumes and performance while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. The Theatre Director inspires campers to explore their creativity, build confidence, and collaborate as a team, while working closely with counselors and staff to enrich the overall camp experience. This position reports to the Camp Director or the Theatre Executive Director.
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Program Leadership: Direct all aspects of the theatre production, including casting, rehearsals, set design, costumes, and the final performance.
Camper Experience: Create engaging daily theatre activities that build confidence, teamwork, and creativity. Supervise and support campers of diverse ages and backgrounds, ensuring safety and inclusion.
Collaboration: Collaborate with theatre counselors and camp staff to deliver programming, provide mentorship, and contribute to the overall camp community.
Operations: Manage logistics such as setup, cleanup, and organization of theatre spaces. Maintain positive relationships with campers, families, and staff, while upholding camp policies and risk management standards.
Qualifications:
Required:
Experience working with youth and adults
Experience in theatre production, directing, or performing arts education
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Background check and sex offender registry clearance
CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (completed before camp)
