Carrie Knudsen serves as Brownstein’s Chief Financial Officer and oversees all aspects of the firm’s finance, billing, and collections.

With more than 20 years’ experience in accounting, she most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer for Sedgwick LLP. While there, she was instrumental in developing the firm’s extensive financial and tax reporting structure, budgeting and forecasting, lateral candidate and merger analysis, managing the firm’s financial systems, and creating internal controls. Prior to that role, she was an accountant for Mowat Mackie & Anderson LLP and Hirose, Oto, and Bailey. She is a certified public accountant.

Barb Mica leads all administrative and operational functions of the firm including administration, business development/marketing, communications, human resources, information technology, professional development, and recruiting. With a background in law firm leadership and deep industry expertise, Barb works directly with the firm’s managing partner and executive committee to oversee operational and administrative processes.

Prior to joining the firm, Barb served as Munger, Tolles & Olson’s COO, overseeing operations across three offices. Holding the most senior non-attorney position in the firm, she had experience leading and directing day-to-day operations and major initiatives in collaboration with the firm’s co-managing partners. Before joining Munger Tolles, Barb served for 11 years as the COO of Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie, where she was responsible for the strategic and operational direction. Prior to that, she served as vice president-finance for Enterprise Management Associates and held senior leadership roles with Arthur Andersen.

With more than 25 years of IT experience, Doug’s experience spans most core disciplines in the field, from desktop support to overseeing multimillion-dollar initiatives. When he joined the firm in 2017, he was charged with expanding the firm’s information security program and establishing a security team. Landin, along with the firm’s risk management committee, is overseeing the firm’s work to gain ISO 27000 certification.

Prior to joining the firm, Landin spent the majority of his career working for the State of Colorado in various roles within IT and information security, including an interim assignment as the state’s information security officer, the state’s liaison with the FBI and as health information technology director for the entire state.

Lara Day is responsible for researching, cultivating, and preserving Brownstein’s organizational culture. This includes strategy and management of a variety of internal initiatives designed to foster the growth and sustainability of the firm. She also oversees the firm’s internal and external communications strategy and public relations efforts, including brand marketing, website content, and presentation and communication training for the firm’s attorneys.

As co-chair of the firm’s crisis management group, Lara draws on her 20 years of experience in leading communications strategy and reputation management to help clients both prepare for and manage crisis situations. She has worked with some of the most high-profile, complex, and scrutinized companies to mitigate reputation risk during their most acute challenges. With experience across diverse industries, Lara has managed an array of crisis situations, including activist campaigns, restructurings, employment matters and product recalls.

Previously, she was the public relations supervisor and lead trainer at Pure Brand Communications, working with clients such as Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc, Noble Energy, BP America, Colorado Oil, and Gas Association, Animal Health International, Procter & Gamble, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Excelsior Youth Center and the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.

As chief information officer, Thomas Jones uses his technical and management skills - alongside more than 20 years of experience in the IT industry - to aide Brownstein in the implementation and utilization of technology through all levels of the firm’s operations.

Prior to joining Brownstein, Thomas worked as IT director at the Colorado Department of Law (Attorney General’s Office) in Denver, acted and was appointed as CIO/IT director of the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and served as a telecommunications technician for a bank in the Denver metro area.
