Builders Choice, Inc. company history timeline

1913

Builders Supply was incorporated on February 27, 1913 by J.J. Hamiter.

Builders Supply opened for business on March 1, 1913 on McNeil St in Shreveport, Louisiana.

1926

In the background you can see the office and main warehouse that was built in 1926.

The first concrete truck was patented in 1926, not long afterwards Builders Supply became the first ready mixed concrete producer to serve Shreveport with the purchase of two 1 yard Rex Mixers.

1930

These two large sand and gravel bins shown in this picture from 1930 were purchased for $2731.00 each.

1935

By 1935, Builders Supply had continued to grow even though the country was in the midst of The Great Depression.

1951

April 1, 1951, Builders Supply Company opens its doors at an old coal yard on North 24th street in Omaha, where selling steel kitchen cabinets for local home builders.

Hamiter would remain at Builders until he retired on December 31, 1951.

1955

By 1955, Builders Supply expanded and began supplying a large selection of building materials; lumber, trusses, millwork, wood-framed windows, hardware and wooden kitchen cabinets.

1960

In February of 1960 a new cement silo was constructed at the end of the main warehouse on 3rd street.

1961

The sales staff pictured here in July 1961 include: Grady C. Golden, Charles Olson, N.R. Ward, J.W. Herring and J. Drew Moreland as Sales Manager.

1963

Beginning in 1963, Builders Supply started to purchase White Motor Co. trucks with inclined mixer drums to replace the older horizontal mixers.

1974

1974, as both companies evolve, a path to merge the two develops.

1976

1976, Udes starts the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), as a way to reward employees with their own stake in the company.

1978

In 1978, Builders Supply started purchasing Mack trucks like these shown here.

1985

He started working full time in 1985 after graduating from Louisiana Tech.

1988

1988, Builders Supply opens the Pneumatic Nail department.

1992

1992, Udes shifts towards retirement and is elected to Chairman of the Board, Robert Wellendorf steps in as President and Dan Wellendorf is promoted to Executive Vice President.

1995

By 1995 Builders Supply had identified several markets for potential growth.

1998

Builders FirstSource was formed in 1998 and has grown through both acquisitions and internal investment.

After customer requests, Builders Supply expanded into Webster Parish in 1998 with the construction of a new plant in Sibley.

2001

2001, Udes is inducted into the Omaha Business Hall of Fame by the Greater Omaha Chamber.

2005

2005, Maury Udes passes away at the age of 83 on November 15th.

2007

2007, Builders Supply opens the Design Center, showcasing products and design to help inspire and educate customers on the latest in home trends.

2007 proved to be a very busy year for Builders Supply with growth in the Winnfield market and a new office and plant in Bossier City.

2011

A new plant was built on this site in the spring of 2011.

2016

2016, Builders Supply purchases land at 69th and Q and moves the wall panel manufacturing plant to a larger facility.

2020

Publicly traded on the NYSE, Builders FirstSource has over 550 locations, including a presence in 85 of the top 100 Metropolitan Statistical Areas in the country, with LTM December 31, 2020 sales of $12.8 billion.
