1800

Use of the Egyptian stone frame diffused throughout the eastern Mediterranean after 1800 bce, and the cultures of mainland Greece were particularly attracted to it.

1830

The first modular homes were conceived in 1830.

1851

Made up of glass and cast iron, the Crystal Palace in London was first assembled in 1851.

1857

The AIA began in 1857 when 13 architects established the organization.

1885

The world’s first skyscraper, Chicago’s Home Insurance Building, was built in 1885.

1887

Later, in response the decline of the master builder model of project design and construction, the AIA and the National Association of Builders collaborated on the first construction form contract – the Uniform Contract of 1887.

1890

Initially built to be 10 stories high, the building was later expanded to 12 floors in 1890.

1914

The Panama Canal, which opened in 1914, was the most expensive construction project in history at that time.

1956

Construction began on the US interstate highway system after the signing of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956.

1958

Two years later, the company name was changed to PC Construction Company — a natural progression reflecting the shift from a small, family business started in 1958 to a thriving company now fully owned by the employees.

Pizzagalli Pre-Cast Stone was formed with six people on the payroll and gross sales for 1958 of $25,000.

1964

The company grew by leaps and bounds over the next few years, attracting expert construction professionals with diverse backgrounds and formed a team that would become Vermont’s largest construction company by 1964.

1994

The Channel Tunnel connecting France and the UK opened in 1994.

2012

The Three Gorges Dam, completed in 2012 in China, is the world’s largest hydroelectric plant.
