BMD was founded in 1943
Their partnership forms Convoy Supply Ltd. in February of 1972.
By 1974, with our sights firmly set on reaching customers all across the country, BMD acquired a new 65,000 sq. ft. building in Galt, CA, making it our new headquarters.
A fire on Quinn Street in late 1974 precipitates the relocation of Convoy Supply/Tidy Industries to 1773 Lyon Street.
That is why in 1977, BMD introduced premium window brand Marvin to the California market.
1987: BMC West is spun off from Boise Cascade.
1991: BMC West completes its initial public offering of stock.
During its first five years of operation, the company acquired 16 properties and either shuttered or relocated another six units, giving it 32 stores by 1992 when the company was selected as Retailer of the Year by the trade publication Building Supply Home Centers.
In 1994 the company acquired ten lumberyards and added $132 million in sales.
In June 1998 BMC West signed an agreement to acquire a 19-acre tract of land in Portland.
1999: After acquiring a 49 percent stake in Knipp Brothers Industries, BMC Framing Inc. is formed.
Value-added products and services, which had once accounted for only 6 percent of sales, accounted for 54 percent of the company's sales in the fourth quarter of 2001.
2001: The remaining 51 percent interest in Knipp Brothers Industries is acquired.
2002 marks some significant changes for Convoy.
During 2002 Mellor increased his influence over the company by replacing McCown as chairman, giving Mellor considerable control as president, chief executive officer, and chairman.
Becoming a fully employee-owned company in 2008, BMD today remains one of the most capable distributors of high-end construction materials for commercial and residential projects in the United States.
2018 saw the introduction of Convoy's new look!
