The Grounds and Gardens Coordinator (Landscaping) plans, implements, organizes, and monitors all aspects of grounds, gardens, and hardscape. This is a hands-on position that performs and guides efforts related to maintaining a safe, healthy, and attractive landscape that enhances the beauty of our community as well as encourages outdoor activities for residents. The ideal candidate will serve as the daily point of contact for the landscape contractor(s) and crew to approve, observe, modify, and provide quality control feedback ensuring that work performed is according to contract and campus need. This includes but is not limited to the implementation of turf, flower, shrub, and tree maintenance throughout the campus. Additionally, the incumbent will interact with residents daily to provide guidance and service for areas around cottages and ground level apartments.

ResponsibilitiesDaily supervision of all grounds keeping and gardening activities and contractors.Daily monitoring of plant material and irrigation systems.Plan, install, and maintain annual and perennial beds, grass, shrubbery, and trees.Provide systematic plans that will address planting schedules, watering schedules, and location focus as needed to grounds manager and contractor(s).Key member and participant for inclement weather preparation and response.Ensure deadlines and quality standards are met and maintained.Manages and supports overall plant health and soil nutrition strategies for all gardens to include sustainable gardening practices and integrated pest management.Actively participating in the daily horticultural tasks.Perform/coordinate the daily policing of gardens and grounds to ensure a clutter free campus; this will include removal of trash and sticks that have blown around campus.Confers with others in the industry about problems, procedures, and new developments.Works closely with Facility Management and Resident Landscape sub-committee on research and implementation of approved resident projects.Identifies and resolves minor exterior building maintenance needs such as clogged gutters and downspouts and power washing.Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring tools, vehicles and equipment in appropriate areas are clean and organized and access all mechanical rooms and closets are free and clean from unnecessary clutter and trash.

QualificationsPlant and plant pest/disease identification and treatment.Communication skills require the ability to provide or obtain basic types of factual information or explanations.Must be computer competent with the ability to conduct research related to job function.Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize projects.Compassion for and strong desire to work and care for/with seniors and provide the appropriate services.Unquestionable honesty and integrity in all aspects of work.Ability to work with minimal supervision and to demonstrate support of the goals of the department.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

RequirementsHigh School Diploma or equivalent required.At least 4 years of experience in gardening and grounds maintenance in a lead capacity.Must possess a valid driver's license in the state of Virginia and be insurable under the company's insurance program.Must have or pursue Master Gardener Certificate.
