    PRIMARY PURPOSE & FUNCTION: Maintain safe and effective control and coordination of all equipment, materials and personnel between shorebases and job location. Must maintain liaison between customer, shorebase and various vendors. Work is primarily performed outdoors in every kind of weather condition and under unpleasant conditions. Depending on task performed, the noise intensity ranges from moderate to extreme. Some tasks require working with very hot materials and hazardous substances. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES Adhering to EPS safe operations procedures. Responsible for all rigging procedures according to EPS Rigging Manual. Ensure that all clients' expectations are delivered. Assisting in the planning of rigging and lifting procedures to be preformed. Determine Weight-Make sure that the weight of the load to be lifted is known. If not, take proper steps to endure the sling has more than adequate capacity. Decide on Hitch or End Attachment-Make sure that the hitch accommodates the load's shape and size as well as its weight. Selection must take into consideration any possible physical damage to the load as well as providing a positive attachment. The hitch or end attachment chosen may affect the choice of cling construction. Check Lifting Device-Make sure that the lifting device has sufficient capacity, is in proper working condition, and provides the maneuverability required once the load is lifted. Consider Room to Life-Make sure the lifting device has sufficient room to pick up the load and handle it when the length of the sling is added to the hook. Determine Sling Length-Make sure to use the longest sling possible for completing the lift, since the longest sling will provide the smallest angle of spread between the sling legs. Check Rate Capacity-Find out the sling's safe working load capacity. DO NOT guess, use Rated Capacity Chart. Double check that the length, type and diameter of the sling chosen will accommodate the load to be lifted. Determine Leg Styles-Considering the capacity above, multi-part slings will be more flexible, more easily handled, than single-part slings and will often provide the only practical means for handling extremely heavy lifts. Check Everything-Before attempting a lift, take a light strain on the rigging, checking to see the blocking, sling and load protection and all safety devices are in place and that the load is free of any restraints. Put It Away!-After you've completed the job, check the sling for any damage. If it is damaged, red tag it immediately or advise the sling inspector. If it is undamaged, return it to the sling storage rack for safekeeping until the next usage. Slings should be stored where they will not be subject to damage. Performs other related duties as required and assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Technical Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to demonstrate safe operation of equipment. Must be able to travel safely to locations. Possess a valid rigging certificate, TWIC card, Water Survival, Safe Gulf and any other certifications that the client determines necessary. Physical Capabilities Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, sometimes under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all kinds of weather. Heavy labor is defined, for example, boosting to height of head 50-pounds and height of waist 100- pounds, climbing up and down ladders and stairs repeatedly, standing on your feet for 12 hours at a time, carrying 100-pound sacks for short distances. Physical strength and stamina to work 12-14 hour tours. Also requires tolerance for the heat and cold. Ability to work at heights. Other Capabilities Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Flexibility to respond to emergency 24 hour shift requirements for calls in from off duty hours. Use of Tools and Equipment Ability to acquire sufficient skill in using tools and equipment used for the various tasks and functions described above. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High school degree or equivalent is preferred. Additional training may be required in order to meet company or customer standards or expectations.
