Burleson, Texas company history timeline

1879

By the early 1880s Burleson had its first post office, with John L. Dickey being the community’s first postmaster. It built its first school in 1879.

1881

Burleson’s origins started in 1881 when the Missouri-Kansas-Texas proposed to build a railroad that would begin in Fort Worth and end in Hillsboro.

1885

In 1885 the area established its first institution of higher learning and named it the PreAlta Vista College, which eventually became Red Oak Academy.

1900

In 1900 Burleson launched its first newspaper the Burleson Banner.

1910

1912

In 1912 the North Texas Traction Company started its Interurban line service that occurred between Cleburne and Fort Worth, with the stop being in Burleson.

1913

The town also benefited from its first electricity in 1913.

1965

In 1965, seventy-five members of the Burleson Lions Club established the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce to support the development of their rapidly growing community.

1980

In 1980 the city’s popuation stood at 11,734, and 196 business establishments.

In 1980, a growing membership of 320 local businesses determined the Chamber’s next step was to procure their own building.

2020

The Chamber sold the building to Burleson Independent School District in 2020 and relocated the offices to the Fusion Office Center, above Babes Restaurant, in Old Town Burleson.
