The Director will manage and provide expertise and professional development to a team of consultants and analysts in managing project quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontracts, proposals, estimates, and client relations. The Director will ensure client satisfaction through commitment, dedication, integrity, and outstanding service. The Utility Consulting Director displays leadership through example and is confident and willing to take it to the next level.
What You'll Do
You'll organize and direct consulting projects, including the overall pursuit, negotiation, execution, cost, schedule, and quality of deliverables.
You'll facilitate workshop sessions with senior‑level client teams to understand client requirements, uncover needs, and develop action plans.
You're a strategic thinker and anticipate client problems. You'll provide innovative and impactful solutions.
Your communication and planning skills are vital to keeping everyone on the same page with project personnel's needs and department management. You'll liaise with internal and external subject‑matter experts to pursue and deliver consulting projects. You're often the first point of contact for all project‑related communications and clients.
You'll compile, distribute, and present status reports, including project progress, schedule, cost, and budget impacts to internal and external stakeholders.

You'll establish project teams, coordinate activities amongst multiple disciplines, and ensure the efficient, cost‑effective utilization of staff. You'll be accountable for delivering third‑party vendors and subcontractors, including contracts, scope, schedule, and budget. Identify upselling and cross‑selling opportunities.

You leverage the latest tools, technologies, and best practices to create action and traction in the face of ambiguity. You'll ensure prime contract, subcontractor, and supplier invoicing is processed promptly in alignment with agreements. You'll provide managerial direction and work assignments to consultants and analysts.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related degree from an accredited program. MBA preferred.
Minimum of 13 years of relevant consulting experience.
Excellent business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets quickly and efficiently.
Ability to uncover customer needs, develop recommendations and deliver them persuasively.
Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
Strong understanding of financial concepts.
Excellent planning and analytical skills.
Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year‑end incentive bonus program.

Burns & McDonnell's team in the Los Angeles region is looking for a Staff Environmental Scientist to support environmental investigation and remediation projects for clientele within a variety of business sectors, including electrical utility, solid waste, mining, manufacturing, oil and gas, renewable energy, and others. This position offers challenging work with significant project variety at a successful, growing company that has been in business for more than 125 years. This individual will enhance our existing remediation and environmental engineering presence in the region, working closely with clients across multiple markets. The position offers the opportunity to utilize cutting-edge technology applied in the remediation industry, including 3D visualization modeling, forensic studies and investigation, high-resolution site characterization, remediation systems design, etc. This position requires experience performing environmental site assessment and remediation, remediation system design, operation, and maintenance, as well as installation and sampling of monitoring wells, report and permit preparation, task management, and other activities, as required. Experience with emerging contaminants of concern, including PFAS, is preferred. The Staff Environmental Scientist will work within our region's Remediation Department and collaborate broadly to support our Environmental Services Global Practice (division) national Civil Construction group, and generally perform the following duties:
+ Support preparation of environmental investigation work plans, reports, feasibility studies, etc.
+ Perform safety, project, and task management duties on environmental projects.

+ Experience on California projects, working with California regulators including DTSC and the Water Boards, is preferred.

Pay Range

We are seeking a Transmission Planning Consultant who is passionate about electric grid reliability, renewable integration, and the technical challenges shaping our energy future. This role will contribute directly to project execution by performing advanced transmission system studies and supporting client decision-making with high-quality technical and economic analysis.
What You'll Do
+ Perform a broad range of studies and consulting services such as power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage analysis, harmonics analysis, electromagnetic, reliability, and congestion management scenarios.
+ Evaluate regulatory conditions and risks by applying NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, production costing, risk assessment, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection principles.
+ Independently execute transmission system planning studies using industry-standard software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.
+ Adapt and apply standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
+ Analyze engineering, financial, and economic data to develop actionable insights for client projects.
+ Develop technical assumptions for life-cycle cost analysis, including capital, O&M costs, performance estimates, and economic forecasts.
+ Conduct risk assessments related to evolving regulatory policies and technical constraints.
+ Perform detailed financial analysis using various analytical software tools.
+ Develop technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
+ Support project managers with client deliverables, proposal development, and business development efforts.
+ Participate in client meetings, technical reviews, and planning sessions to support transmission planning engagements.
+ Comply with all company policies and quality standards.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program or related degree and 3 years of related experience or
+ Master's Degree in Engineering or Business, and 2 years of experience, or
+ PhD in Engineering and 1 year of experience
+ Prior experience associated with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
+ Experience with power system planning and operations; transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis; NERC, FERC, and Regional requirements, policies and procedures; production costing; risk assessment techniques; TPL compliance; generator interconnection; or harmonics analysis.
+ Experience with electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes.
+ Strong computer skills using industry software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.
+ Ability to execute various transmission system planning studies.
+ Knowledge of numerous power regions of the country and independent system operators such as: PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, NYISO
+ Knowledge of NERC and FERC standards
+ Ability to provide evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
+ Knowledge in standard engineering, construction, and operation techniques, principles, and procedures associated with power transmission facilities.
+ Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills.
+ Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of consultants and analysts in regards to transmission planning studies.
+ Ability to independently solve difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Compensation
$125,000.00-350,000.00 Yearly
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.

The Opportunity
As a Electrical Project Engineer, you may have the opportunity to:
* Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead Role, providing project coordination, guidance and expertise on assigned substation projects. · Support a variety of substation projects ranging up to 765kV in engineering detailed design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC).
* Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, one line/single line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring and equipment wiring within high voltage substation designs.
* Develop physical design deliverables including yard layout plans, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems within high voltage substation designs.
* Perform or oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
* Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
* Communicate and coordinate project activities and activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
* Present proposals, designs and project activities.
* Potential travel opportunities to client and vendor offices and/or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification.
* Prepare and manage design budgets and schedules.
* Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Continues developing knowledge and may provide guidance and direction on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies. Provides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.

May oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work. Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods. Actively delegates appropriate tasks to lower level team members to develop depth of project execution staff. Reviews lower level engineering work or assignments. Is responsible for one or more of the following: leading production teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for a project.
* Actively coordinates with all other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
* Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers on low to moderately complex projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on low to moderately complex projects. Provides support to business development or pursuit activities and may offer other services to clients.
* Recognized as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area. May design a complete project of moderately complex scope or support multiple projects on the complex technical challenges. Actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring. May develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
