Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with Independence Police Department to conduct crisis intervention and respond to community needs.
* Coordinate services and develop local systems of care for individuals with behavioral health challenges.
* Adhere to safety guidelines and provide assistance during involuntary detention as necessary.
* Document all interventions and ensure compliance with agency standards.
* Attend conference calls, webinars, and required training sessions, while performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Crisis Services.
Education, Experience, and/or Credential Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in related field required.
* Master's Degree or higher is preferred.
* Prefer crisis intervention experience.
* Must be able to pass a background check as required by Independence Police Department.
Additional Qualifications:
* Current driver's license and acceptable driving record.
* Must complete New Hire Orientation and all training requirements, including Relias.
Physical Requirements:
* Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
* Repetitive movements are required for typing and writing throughout the work shift.

Completes intake for individuals requesting services; assesses the needs of the patient and their eligibility for service; identifies substance use, based on symptomology and treatment history.
Plans and conducts individual sessions, group counseling and follow-up sessions in accordance with standards.
Develops and facilitates education for individual clients and groups; educates clients on substance use topics and how to avoid and/or reduce use.
Maintains contact with referral resources in the community; refers patients to community providers or to other agencies who can provide a higher level care.

SUMMARY OF POSITION
This position is part of a 24/7/365 high volume, suicide prevention focused team. This position will answer statewide 988 chat/texts and conduct. As a part of this team, you'd be responsible for providing brief clinical screenings, risk assessments and appropriate service linkage for individuals who are experiencing emotional distress. The ideal candidate for this role has excellent computer skills, a proven ability to communicate effectively through written communication/instant messaging and the ability to multi-task in a high stress environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate high level of clinical knowledge and skill in providing telephonic or chat clinical screenings and risk assessments.
Answer crisis contacts via Zoom contact center or the chat/text platform to assess for suicide, safety and identify appropriate community resources to best meet individual needs.
Conduct follow-up calls for individuals who are deemed moderate to high risk for suicide.
Meet the ethical and clinical standards in compliance with all accreditation.
Actively participate in ongoing supervision, training and team meetings.
Demonstrate high-level customer service skills and professional etiquette.
Demonstrate knowledge and competency in providing service linkage and referrals for programs, services, and other community resources.
Promote a departmental culture of cooperation and collaboration with other cross-functional departments, community agencies, hospitals, mental health consumers, and the public at large.

Role Purpose
The Behavioral Health Therapist works with individuals, families, and groups to address and treat mental & emotional disorders, and to promote optimal mental health.
Responsibilities
Provides individual, and in some cases, family therapy to active clients.
Updates the treatment plan to reflect therapy goals. Collaborates with other professionals regarding client participation level, progress, and setbacks.
Completes intakes for individuals requesting services at BJC, assessing their eligibility based on symptomology, treatment history, and current needs.
Develops and facilitates education for clients.
