Work involves providing CUE passengers with safe and efficient operational service, providing bus service information and general municipal information, and collecting appropriate fares. Work may involve nonstandard shifts. Work is performed under the general supervision of the CUE Operations Manager or the CUE Transit Supervisor and is reviewed through observation and through passenger response.
Examples Of Duties
Drives a passenger bus on an assigned route; collects fares and passes; may serve as a driver on charter runs or represent CUE at events as required.
Remains alert and conscious of safety risks throughout entire shift; exhibits care for wellbeing and safety of customers and other road users; follows all applicable traffic and vehicle laws.
Follows assigned route and schedule as best as road conditions allow.
Maintains cheerful and positive attitude towards customers, members of the public, and other co-workers; volunteers help and information when appropriate; exhibits dedication to customer service.
Provides information to passengers including bus schedules and routes; assists passengers in determining how to get to desired destination.
Ensures passenger safety by enforcing rules of conduct and operation; checks bus for lost items and reports any if found.
Conducts visual inspection and operational safety check of assigned vehicle; keeps alert for mechanical or other equipment problems requiring attention; reports repair needs; reports traffic hazards, accidents, and other conditions requiring attention.

Qualifications
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation.
Knowledge of the hazards of equipment operation and of appropriate safety precautions.

Must be available to drive during regular CUE Bus hours of operation:
Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.
Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sundays, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Selected candidates with an active CDL will receive a $1,400 bonus upon hire. (Paid per pay period, 26 pay periods per year).

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Communicates effectively with supervisor, includes 2 way radio transmissions.

Ensures all accidents are reported to a supervisor immediately.

Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Requirements:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. (One year of work may substitute for one year of education up to a maximum three years substitution.)
Minimum one year of work experience performing customer service tasks.

Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete the Virginia Education Department training curriculum for school bus drivers and obtain a Commercial Driver's License with appropriate school bus endorsements within the probationary period.
Must have no reckless driving or driving under the influence convictions within five years and less than two moving violations within 12 months of employment start date.
Must be able to pass all phases of the pre-employment screening process, to include a Virginia Department of Transportation Physical Assessment, background check and pre-employment drug screening.
This position is subject to successfully passing the EB.001 School Bus Drivers Application for Physician Certificate annually.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with children and/or operating a commercial vehicle preferred.
Possession of valid CDL or CDL learners permit preferred.

Physical Conditions & Additional Information
All employees must satisfy the Virginia Department of Transportation Physical Assessment provided by the City before being hired and annually. This position is considered essential and is subject to emergency and stand-by call. This position is subject to federal DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations. Work is typically performed inside and around the exterior of a bus and employees must also be able to satisfy the following physical requirements: Long periods of sitting; Frequent overhead reaching, bending and stooping over, crawling to inspect under buses. Ability to secure a wheelchair safely on the bus. Occasional lifting of at least fifty pounds is required. Frequent contact with Transportation Supervisor, fellow drivers and passengers is required. Contact with various administrators, and the general public is required. Occasional meetings with administrators and/or parents and patrons are necessary. Person shall have no impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger, or an arm, and no other structural defects or limitation likely to interfere with the ability to control and safely drive a bus. Must have the physical ability to descend from or climb up to at least 3.5 feet, at the emergency door, to assist in the evacuation of the passengers. Operation of vehicles during inclement weather is required.

About the Position
Drives carriages in the Historic Area, taking visitors for scheduled rides. Drives carriages and wagons for special events and programs. Interprets driving, travel and transportation in 18th-century Virginia with emphasis on carriages and horses. Follows procedures for care of horses and carriages. Assists Livestock Husbanders in care and movement of sheep, cattle, poultry as assigned; other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
Prepares horses for street work, including grooming, washing, checking hooves and condition of the shoes. Advises Head Coachman or Stable Operations Supervisor of any issues.
Assists with cleaning of harnesses and carriages daily as needed to meet the Foundation's standards.
Fits harnesses to horses in a safe and efficient manner; advises Supervisors of any worn or damaged parts that need replacing.
Within 1-4 months, learns to drive horse-drawn carriages. Drives carriages taking visitors for scheduled rides throughout Historic Area; drives for special programs and events as assigned.
Work toward earning Level 1 CAA certification.
Provides interpretation of transportation and movement in 18th-century Virginia, with emphasis on use of carriages and horses. Basic interpretation of roles of other livestock (cattle, sheep, poultry).
Monitor horses for illness, injury, shoe problems; report issues to the Supervisors, and assist in treating the animal as necessary.
When needed, help maintain pastures, fencing and watering devices.
When needed, drive trucks and trailers to feed and move livestock. Assist in basic maintenance of trucks, trailers, golf carts, mowers, and tractors.
Assist with special programs including giving tours of the stables to special guests as assigned.
Participates as an active member of a team and model the organization's personal/professional expectations.
Assist Livestock Husbanders in care and moving of sheep, cattle, and poultry as assigned. Occasional supervised work with ox-driving, sheep, cattle, or poultry as assigned.
Work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Be available for work on an emergency basis, seven days a week, 24 hours per day.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
General Knowledge and practical skills in working with horses and carriages, usually gained by working full time with the Coach and Livestock department or similar operation for at least two years.
Full knowledge of Colonial Williamsburg's pastures and livestock waterers and how to access them, gained by working with the Coach & Livestock Department at least for 9 months.
Must be able to administer medical aid to livestock as assigned by the veterinarian.
Must be able to enter information into RTP system for purchased carriage rides.
Apprentice Level 3 and higher must possess a valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license and have an acceptable driving record based on Colonial Williamsburg's criteria.
Must have a proven ability to handle machinery, such as mowers, trucks, and trailers. Generally gained through at least 4 years of working with this type of machinery.
Proven ability to work alone with livestock both safely and having initiative to handle unforeseen circumstances in dealing with Livestock.
Must possess good communication skills, and ability to work in a team.
Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and possess good communication skills.
Must display a willingness to work occasionally in costume and work in all weather conditions, also participate in special events as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in driving horses
CAA Certification Level 1
Knowledge of the care of sheep, cattle, and / or poultry
