16. The driver shall park his bus each day at the last school at which pupils unload, at a parking place designated by the assistant superintendent and it shall remain parked there until time to transport his pupils to their homes. It shall be the duty of the principal of the school which the bus is parked to cooperate with the driver to protect the bus from abuse while it is parked there.
17. The driver shall not use the bus for his own personal transportation or convenience at any time. It is a violation of state law for a driver to use a district owned bus for his personal transportation.
18. Each trip other than on the regular school route shall be made on written instruction from the superintendent as provided in the Rules and Regulations of the state school buses owned by school districts for the purpose of transporting children to and from school programs as authorized by House Bill No. 6 of the Laws of Mississippi, Extra-ordinary Session, 1953, and such trips shall not then be made unless the driver has with him on the bus the written instructions from the superintendent for the specific trip being made. The superintendent shall authorize no extra trips except those specifically approved by the board and recorded in the official minutes of the board. The board shall not authorize the use of a school bus for any service not authorized by the State Board of Education, or by law.
19. The driver shall park the bus at night and on weekends at a place designated by the superintendent and if this designated parking place is at the driver's home he shall be responsible for its safekeeping while it is parked there. The driver shall permit no one except the substitute driver designated to drive his bus and the substitute driver shall be governed by the same laws, rules and regulations as the driver.
20. The driver shall enter into a contract with the board to faithfully perform his duties as driver as provided in these rules and regulations, and the regulations of the board on forms provided by the State Board of Education. The board may require the driver to furnish a performance bond with a surety company on the form that such driver will faithfully carry out the provisions of said contract.
21. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Transportation Supervisor and/or Superintendent's designee may assign from time to time.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses the School Board Policy Manual, Public School Accountability Standards, and Mississippi Code as the directives for operations of Tunica County Schools as set forth by the Tunica County School Board.
It is the responsibility of the school busdriver to operate the school bus in a safe and efficient manner and to abide by all state traffic laws, SBE regulations and local school board regulations and policies.
Knows and comply with all rules, regulations, procedures, and requirements of the Transportation In-Service Manual.
Works cooperatively with all staff.
Works within the framework of the Tunica County Schools as set forth in the line organizational chart.
Conducts a thorough pre-trip inspection of the school bus daily.
Keeps exterior mirrors clean and adjusted at all times.
Performs a minimum of two school bus evacuation drills each school year utilizing appropriate emergency procedures.
Knows, recognizes and obey road signs and signals by meanings, shapes, sounds and colors.
Keeps the interior of the bus clean.
Maintains routes and schedules as planned by the local board and operate the school bus on established route and time schedule, never departing from a bus stop early.
Picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops.
Transports only authorized students.
Reports any hazards along the existing route to appropriate school officials.
Exercises the effective defensive driving skills of self-control, alertness, foresight and good judgment at all times while operating the school bus.
Maintains discipline on the school bus without jeopardizing safety while driving.
Remains alert at all times to hazards, including but not limited to poor weather conditions, other vehicles, road conditions and trains at railroad crossings.
Completes all reports on bus discipline, bus maintenance, monthly pre-trip inspection reports, monthly busdriver report of driving record, and other reports required by the local school board and the Transportation Director.
Reports disciplinary infractions by students to proper authority by completing bus discipline reports.
The driver shall not, at any time, permit pupils to stand in the step well or loading area or where the pupil would likely fall out of the bus, if the rear emergency door was opened, or where the driver's view is obscured.
Conducts a Mandatory walk through inspection after each trip for passengers and damages.
Initiates a written maintenance work order identifying all vehicle defects on assigned school bus immediately upon discovery of defect or problem and forward to the Transportation department on a vehicle repair form.
Never operate a school-owned vehicle, which the driver, mechanics, or transportation director considers unsafe.
Immediately report all accidents and complete reports required.
Attends meetings and staff development sessions as scheduled.
Be tested for alcohol and drugs.
Fulfills other duties as assigned.

16. The driver shall park his bus each day at the last school at which pupils unload, at a parking place designated by the assistant superintendent and it shall remain parked there until time to transport his pupils to their homes. The bus shall not be moved during the day except for necessary service to the bus or for purposes specifically authorized by the assistant superintendent. It shall be the duty of the principal of the school which the bus is parked to cooperate with the driver to protect the bus from abuse while it is parked there.
17. The driver shall not use the bus for his own personal transportation or convenience at any time. It is a violation of state law for a driver to use a district owned bus for his personal transportation.
18. Each trip other than on the regular school route shall be made on written instruction from the superintendent as provided in the Rules and Regulations of the state school buses owned by school districts for the purpose of transporting children to and from school programs as authorized by House Bill No. 6 of the Laws of Mississippi, Extra-ordinary Session, 1953, and such trips shall not then be made unless the driver has with him on the bus the written instructions from the superintendent for the specific trip being made. The superintendent shall authorize no extra trips except those specifically approved by the board and recorded in the official minutes of the board. The board shall not authorize the use of a school bus for any service not authorized by the State Board of Education, or by law.
19. The driver shall park the bus at night and on weekends at a place designated by the superintendent and if this designated parking place is at the driver's home he shall be responsible for its safekeeping while it is parked there. The driver shall permit no one except the substitute driver designated to drive his bus and the substitute driver shall be governed by the same laws, rules and regulations as the driver.
20. The driver shall enter into a contract with the board to faithfully perform his duties as driver as provided in these rules and regulations, and the regulations of the board on forms provided by the State Board of Education. The board may require the driver to furnish a performance bond with a surety company on the form that such driver will faithfully carry out the provisions of said contract.
21. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Transportation Supervisor and/or Superintendent's designee may assign from time to time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma preferred. Completion of State Department of Education's 40-hour training to operate a school bus. Pass all DMV written and practical pre-trip and on-road test to obtain a commercial drivers license class; must have driving experience.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, repetitive motions.
