Duties and Responsibilities of the Bus Driver
We are looking for a School Bus Driver to join the Académie Lafayette Public Charter Schools team to transport students to and from school and extracurricular events following a scheduled route while ensuring student safety. Please note that we cannot provide visas for non-teaching positions.
Status of Position
This is a part-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reporting
The Bus Driver reports to the Bus Supervisor/Dispatcher and the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
Is attentive to traffic and weather conditions and ensures passenger safety.
Follows the planned route and schedule for pickup and departure times and stops.
Regularly checks vehicle safety such as tires, brakes, lights, turn signals and mechanical equipment, etc.
Fuel bus with no passengers onboard to ensure the route can be completed.
Transports children and other passengers to and from school.
Obeys all traffic laws to ensure students arrive at their destination safely.
Maintains a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times.
Communicates any mechanical issues or safety issues to immediate supervisor.
Ensures the safety of all students when entering and leaving the bus.
Assists students with getting on and off the bus as needed.
Engages with students as they enter and leave the bus.
Maintains complete records of all the maintenance that have taken place on bus.
Attends staff and safety training meetings.
Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the buses.
Actively participates in the bus driver performance evaluations.
Maintains an active bus driver file that includes an updated Motor Vehicle Report, driver licensing, background checks and other information.
Reports any driving violations that will affect appropriate licensing.
Maintains a positive relationship with parents, students and the staff members of the school.
Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators and responds promptly to their concerns.
Informs parents of any route change, schedule change or timing change of the bus trip.
Conducts mock evacuation and emergency drills in a timely manner.
Provides receipts for all expenditures to include fuel, oil changes, and other preventive maintenance to the Bus Supervisor/Dispatcher.
Maintains a positive working relationship with City Wide Transportation, Inc.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
Two or more years of experience working with children preferred
Ability to carry out assigned route on time
Must have a Commercial Driver's License and maintain throughout employment.
Must successfully pass a comprehensive MACHS Fingerprinting Background check.
Must register and be cleared with the Family Care and Safety Registry
Must participate in the DOT drug screening program.
Willing to accept and make decisions that enhance the Académie Lafayette transportation model.
