The primary duty of a monitor is to assist the driver in maintaining control on the bus and to monitor the behavior of the students. Monitors should help the driver survey the front of the bus and check the rear emergency door to see if it is working properly. Monitors will survey the entire bus during runs for possible sources of injury to students. Monitors will see that the children load and unload the bus in an orderly and proper manner. Monitors are to do a seat check upon completion of routes to be sure that the bus is empty and to pick up any belongings that may have been left on the bus. They should inform students about safety rules: what they "can do" and "cannot do" on the bus. They should assist in bus evacuation drills.
