Under the direction of the Director of Transportation or his/her designee, the bus driver is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective transportation of students to and from school. This poistion is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Mandated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program as provided in District Policy #5202.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Operates school buses on assigned routes and trips in support of district approved activities both within and outside the school district boundaries.
* Practices defensive driving at all times, and displays courtesy to other vehicle operators.
* Operates all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State School Bus Specification. Operates a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies publicized by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
* Operates school bus in various types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow and ice.
* Maintains control of student passengers as related to safety and behavior and in accordance with district procedures. May include reporting unsafe actions and working directly with parents and building administrators to correct unsafe behavior of students.
* Completes legible and accurate forms, records, timesheets, reports and other clerical type activities as may be required by the State or district policies and procedures.
* Successfully completes school bus driver training programs and courses established by the Superintendent of Public Instruction, completes training programs and courses as offered by Clover Park School District's Transportation Department.
* Performs daily pre/post trip operation and safety inspections as required of the school bus and related equipment. This includes refueling, checking and maintaining the cleanliness of the vehicle inside and out, checking for damage to the exterior/interior of the school bus.
* Prepares for and performs basic first aid and emergency evacuations as required. 10. Works cooperatively with other school district personnel.
* Foster and maintain positive, productive and cooperative working relations with District staff and patrons.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
* Must be at least 21 years old
* Requires high school diploma or GED
* Experience in driving passenger vehicles for a minimum of three years or one year experience driving a commercial vehicle requiring a special endorsement.
* Acceptable driving record as defined in WAC 392-144-103 (2)(3). Driving record free of all major violations such as DWI or negligent driving, with a limited number of minor violations.
* Physically able to perform daily, routine school bus vehicle safety inspections; necessary emergency road services; use all hand and/or foot-operated controls and equipment found on state minimum specified school buses and maneuver and control a school bus under all driving conditions.
* Possess sufficient strength and agility to move about in a school bus as required to provide assistance to students as they enter or exit a school bus through passenger service door or while evacuating the bus during an emergency. Have no physical limitations which would prevent satisfactory performance of job duties
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Ability to demonstrate and pass required written and physical proficiency examinations for school bus driver. Able to drive all sizes and types of buses operated by the district.
* Ability to apply rules, regulations and procedures in accordance with district policies while working within designated bounds of authority and confidentiality.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to exchange information accurately and appropriately.

Certification and Licenses
* Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Commercial driver's license with passenger/school bus endorsement with airbrake restriction removed. An individual who is a diabetic being treated with insulin may hold a school bus driver authorization if they meet the requirements outlined in WAC 392-144-020.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to use fingers, hands and arms, sit for prolonged periods of time. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, walk, reach and perform recurring physical activity requiring ordinary strength. Ability to hear and see, to perform duties of driving bus. Exposures include traffic, inclement weather at times, cold, heat dust, fumes possible infectious diseases. Constant exposure to moderate level of noise that does not require hearing protection and occasional disruptive behavior of students. Required to operate hand and foot controls. Able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds in difficult working positions. Exposure to vibration of moving vehicle while in a sitting position. Constant mental and visual attention required.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Driver will be working independently in all types of inclement weather and must be prepared to perform any added duties because of this. Necessary tasks may include but are not limited to pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, squatting, running, climbing, and jumping. Driver will be responsible for safe evacuation of all students from bus when warranted. Driver will have to be constantly alert and aware of all safety factors. Driver is required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors that may include angry or distraught students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon the individual assignment the Bus Driver may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Drives a school bus to transport students safely to and from school for their education; transports students safely to and from field trips and other special events.
2. Performs pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of assigned bus; checks oil, water and fuel and other fluid levels; checks lights, buzzers, tires, belts, brakes, and other safety equipment; takes corrective action as appropriate to ensure safe bus operation; reports needs for bus maintenance or repair as necessary.
3. Supervises and corrects student behavior in and around school bus for student safety; models safe and appropriate behavior; maintains student discipline on the bus; instructs students in safe and responsible behavior on the bus.
4. Maintains effective communication with students, parents, school staff and administrators, dispatchers, mechanics, other drivers and the public for safety and community relations. Promotes a positive environment for student learning.
5. Observes and obeys state, local and school district laws and regulations, rules, policies and procedures related to safe driving and safe pupil transportation; conducts bus fire drills and emergency evacuation drills for student safety.
6. Issues discipline slips as required by district policy. Advises students with bus discipline problems; meets with principal or parent if warranted.
7. Provides first aid to injured or ill students as necessary.
8. Assists students with a variety of concerns and problems, such as changes in destination, locating siblings and other transportation related matters; checks notes and written permission or secures verbal permission from parent for non-routine student transportation.
