Job Summary:

Split shift position (approximately 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM for bus routes)
This is an ON-CALL position with no set schedule. This position is for individuals willing to be available to step in on an as needed basis. This would include the following scenarios: Our Full time or Part time bus drivers are on vacation, are unavailable due to illness, and have requested time off. We will do our best to provide as much notice as possible in regard to filling the time slots needing coverage.
COMPENSATION
Compensation for this role is $35/hour

Qualifications: Applicants holding a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are highly preferred.
High School diploma preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license for a minimum of 12 months.
No more than four (4) points against current driving record.
No driving suspensions in the past 12 months.
Successful completion of the written and driving portions of the South Carolina school bus training course and commercial driver's license (CDL) program.
Completion of mandatory training program provided by the district's Transportation Office.
Valid physical examination upon completion of course.
Favorable criminal background check.
Available for regular work schedule.
Primary Responsibilities
Obeys all traffic laws.
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports student discipline concerns to the proper authority.
Maintaining the competency level and integrity of the bus driving profession by following all rules and regulations as set forth by the Williamsburg County School District and the S.C. Department of Education.
Keeps assigned bus clean and enforces regulations against smoking and eating on bus.
Adheres to assigned schedule.
Discharges students only at authorized stops and transports only authorized students.
Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects and notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
Exercises responsible leadership at all times.
Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
Works with others consistently in a cooperative and respectful manner.
Performs all other duties and responsibilities as designated.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation by the Director or designee.

Physical Demands: In addition to successfully passing the South Carolina Department of Education Physical Performance test, drivers are also expected to be able to assist, move, push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Be physically able to withstand prolonged periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, walking, reaching, and repetitive movements.
Terms of Employment: BD1 FMSD Salary Schedule, 180 contract days per year. Non-exempt. Salary placement based upon experience and education based on district formula.

JOB TITLE: BUS DRIVER

This employee is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of students to and from
designated schools or other destinations in accordance with the laws of the State of South Carolina, rules of the State Board of Education, and policies of Barnwell County Consolidated School District.
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
1. Studying and observing all laws and regulations of the State Board of
Education and the School Board relating to the transportation of students.
2. Passing an annual physical examination and meeting such other requirements
as may be prescribed by law or regulation.
3. Being clean and neat in appearance and refraining from the use of tobacco
while operating the bus and use of profane language in the presence of students.
4. Attending and participating in meetings and training classes for school
bus drivers and being prepared at any time to pass successfully a drug and alcohol test.
5. Ascertaining and ensuring that transported students observe all regulations
prescribed by law and by the State and local Board.
6. Maintaining order and discipline while transporting students to and from school.
7. Permitting a student to exit off the school bus only at their regular stop except upon written request from parents.
8. Instructing students when leaving the bus stop to cross the highway in
front of the bus only after approaching vehicles have stopped.
9. Instructing transported students to and from school safe riding practices.
10. Supervising emergency evacuation drills at least twice each school year as directed by the transportation supervisor.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is needed. Must have passed a physical including drug test.
CDL is required, but can be trained to receive a CDL prior to driving.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognized similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
