JOB GOAL: To provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the system's curricular and extra-curricular programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a busdriver.
Possession of a valid state of West Virginia Commercial Driver's License, Class B (passenger endorsement).
Knowledge of the road and street system of the county; ability to effectively control the action of children of different ages riding the school buses; thorough knowledge of safety measures invoked to protect children using school buses; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Successful completion of West Virginia School Bus Operators Program presented by Ohio County Schools Transportation Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Drive a school bus on assigned routes, picking up and discharging children at designated locations.
Keep to assigned schedule.
Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
Report undisciplined students to proper authorities using the correct procedures. If necessary, meet with school administrators, parents, and when applicable, students, to resolve situations when could affect the safe operation of the school bus.
Keep assigned bus clean and notify the coordinator of vehicle maintenance of needed repairs.
Prepare reports to the administrator for transportation as required.
Accept curricular and extra-curricular trips when necessary.

Participate in regularly scheduled staff development conducted by Ohio County Schools.

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code ï ½18A-4-8a, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Scale, Pay Grade D3 commensurate with experience and education level.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Bus terminal Supervisor in accordance with WV State Code ï ½18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school by maintaining an orderly and disciplined bus environment, reporting misconduct, rule violation or mechanical problems to the principal or bus terminal supervisor. This position is not assigned a route. The person in this position will be expected to take any regular run assigned by the terminal Supervisor. Busdrivers are generally assigned to an eight (8) hour day. The School Bus Monitor Aide assists with the supervision of student bus passengers, including securing student passengers in the provided types of restraint.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
An employee working for Kanawha County Schools is expected to comply with all the Kanawha County Schools Policies and Procedures, including maintaining regular attendance and completing all required training. Employees are required to follow all safety rules to maintain a safe workplace. Specifically, a Bus Operator is expected to perform all duties outlined in WV State Board of Education Policy 4336.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Job Duties.
Transport students safely to and from school daily, and acting as the Supervisor for all students in their custody and control riding the bus both coming to and going from the school.
Performs pre/post trip inspections to ensure the operation of equipment is properly maintained and safe.
Learn routes, including pick up and drop off locations.
Assists and supervises students with disabilities.
Communicates with students, parents, school officials and supervisors.
Completes proper paperwork.
Be able to installs snow chains on a bus.
Secures a wheelchair.
Maintains cleanliness of the bus, that includes sweeping (daily) and washing the interior and exterior of the bus (weekly).
Reports the names and addresses of students riding the bus to supervisors and prepare a seating chart.
Prepares a monthly report for the Executive Director of Transportation, summarizing mileage, maintenance, extracurricular trips, fuel and oil consumption and passengers transported.
Responsible for safety equipment (i.e. wheel chair hook-ups and work with monitor aide, safety vest, lifts, car seats, etc.)
Drivers of lift buses are to check to make sure wheelchairs are properly secured and restraints are properly used.
All other duties as assigned.
