Reports to: Accountable to Transportation Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Keep an accurate record of driving time and mileage. 2) Complete accurately all other reports, forms, or records required by the district or state. 3) Drivers are responsible for the condition of their buses. They shall report all deficiencies and need for repairs to the supervisor/mechanic by means of a written work order. 4) Buses shall be swept and cleaned daily. 5) Before each run the driver shall check the following: * Brakes * Lights * Stop signs and other safety devices * Warning signal lamps * Windshield * Hatches, safety lock and emergency door warning systems 6) Once daily before the first time the bus is driven, the following shall be checked: * Oil level * Water level * Power steering level * Fuel * Tires * Oil pressure * Hatches, safety lock, emergency door warning systems * Air Brake system cycle * 1st Aid Kit * Fire extinguisher 7) Drivers shall notify the supervisor of dangerous conditions, or unsafe acts, which exist on his or her run. 8) Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the Sate of Washington and policies promulgated by OSPI WAC 392-144, and RCW 28A.400.300-340 9) Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. 10) Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and annual courses established by OSPI and the school district. Drivers must maintain current first aid, appropriately endorsed driver's license, and a current DOT medical certificate signed by an authorized DOT medical examiner as conditions of employment. 11) Operate wheelchair lift and assist students loading and unloading from the school bus (only on lift bus). 12) Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and public. 13) Assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door. 14) Provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus in any accident or other emergency situation. 15) Install tire chains (ability to lift 50 pounds) and perform all pre-trip inspections as required by district practice. 16) Perform after school and/ or sports related trips based on seniority of drivers. 17) Perform other school bus driver-related duties as directed by supervisor of transportation. 18) Comply with reasonable requests made by Transportation Supervisor and other district administration. Additional duties depending on the route you take may include: Clean support vehicles, this will be vacuuming, wiping down, removing trash and washing them all. Also fuel them if they are not on full. This will be documented in a folder. Clean the break room area, sweep, take out trash, straighten up. Also clean the restrooms-all 3, clean toilets and sinks, keep toilet paper and paper towels full, take out trash, sweep and mop once a week. Also sweep through the entrance area and mop when needed. There will be a check off sheet to sign. Qualifications: * High School graduate. * Be at least 21 years of age with 5 years of driving experience. WAC 392-144-101 * Valid Washington State driver's license; Class B, CDL with appropriate endorsements. * School bus driver authorization issued by OSPI. * First aid qualified (eight-hour Red Cross or equivalent). * Meet all requirements of WAC chapter 392-144 and 28A-400, 300-340 RCW (drug testing, disclosure, finger printing). And maintain compliance with state rules and regulations for school bus drivers. * Excellent driving record free of major infractions. * Complete 5 year driver license abstract required by OSPI. * Physically able to drive and perform all duties related to school bus driving. * Provide a copy of a current valid medical examiner's certificate from a certified CDL medical examiner.     Announcement # 2025-328 On-Call Bus Driver Tribal School Department of Human Services Hourly Wage: $21.11/Intermittent/On-Call Incumbent is responsible for operating a school bus and transporting Tribal School students and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from school and various extracurricular activity trips as authorized by the school administrators. Operates school buses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to; fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice. Incumbent will conduct pre-trip inspections; observes safety regulations and policies and performs related work. Examples of Work Performed: Operate a school for the purpose of transporting students to and from school routinely on strict scheduled routes and or school activities both within the and outside the school district boundaries. Maintain, inspect and clean school buses and related equipment as required by the state and district policy; to include interior/exterior sweeping and washing, installation of fuel, oil and coolant, checking tire inflation, etc. report any mechanical defects and report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs. Maintain good order among students as related to safety, while the bus in in motion, parked, boarding and exit, cross streets and/or roadways near bus stops. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person rather than the driver. Obeys all traffic laws and transportation practices as outlined in the CDL manual, Bus Driver Handbook, School Board Policy and local ordinances. Ensure that the bus can be operated safely and conducts pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections as required by federal and state laws to include observing visual defects and checking operating systems to include brakes, horn, lights, emergency flashers, extended stop arms, and door-opening devices. Legible and accurate completion forms, records and reports that may include the number of passengers, trip requests, hours worked, route studies, accident reports, mileage and fuel consumption as required. Attend meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to fire extinguisher, highway warning kits, snow chains, sanders, first aid kits, etc. Drive students and teachers on field trips, extracurricular activities, and other special events, often in evenings and at night as assigned. Reports all accidents immediately, requesting police or ambulance service as needed; assists injured person(s) until services arrive; and completes required accident reports.     WAHLUKE SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB SUMMARY AND DESCRIPTION OF TASKS Available Immediately Position: School Bus Driver, 4 hours per day with opportunity for additional hours, School Year Work Calendar Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Salary Range: Current PSE Contract Salary Schedule for Bus Driver Classification: Classified; FLSA Non-Exempt, hourly position Representation: Union Representation available by the Public School Employee Union Benefits: Position qualifies for employer contribution to medical benefits; Retirement contributions and plans. Earned sick leave, 10 days per year or prorated from date of hire; personal days, 4 per year or prorated from date of hire; up to 10 paid holidays per year. Basic Function: Operates school buses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice. Transports students and other authorized persons over regular "to and from school" routes, and on field, extracurricular and special or extra activity trips as authorized by the school district officials. Bus Driver, Routes may be 4 to 6 hours/day, regular route, Valid Washington State Driver's License Ability to successfully complete school bus driver training programs as required by Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and courses established by the school district. Ability to obtain school bus driver's authorization; commercial drivers license; school bus endorsement; first aid card; Willingness to work with children in a kind and caring manner; Train passengers on safe and healthy ridership practices and required adherence to practices. Be of general good health Typical Work and Responsibilities: * Drive a school bus on scheduled routes and/or on all types of trips in support of district approved activities, both within and outside the school district boundaries. * Service, inspect and clean school buses and related equipment as required by state and district policy. * Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver. * May assist passengers with individual and special needs. * Complete accurate and legible forms, records and reports as required by the state and local district policies. * Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the district. * Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. * Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by supervisor and district policies. * Operate and service all school bus equipment and accessories including but not limited to: fire extinguishers, highway warning kits, snow chains, sanders, first aid kits, etc. * Perform required operations and safety inspections of the school bus and all related equipment. * Clean and service the school bus to include interior/exterior sweeping and washing, installation of fuel, oil and coolant, tire inflation, etc. * Operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State School Bus specification. * Perform basic first aid as appropriate which may include CPR. * Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by supervisor and district policies. Qualifications: * High School diploma or GED preferred but not required. * Must be at least 21 years old. * 5 years driving experience * Valid Washington State Driver's License * Maintain a valid Washington State endorsement for bus driver or ability to successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses as required and which may be established by the school district. * Willingness to allow for a Dept of Licensing Driver Abstract to be run. * Successfully pass a DOT Physical and participate in drug and alcohol testing as required. * Bus driver experience preferred. * Valid or ability to secure a First Aide/CPR card. * Clearance for State and National background checks as a result of fingerprinting, successfully pass criminal records check. * Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. * Willingness and ability to assume extra curricular, field trips, and other transportation related assignments. * Experience working with culturally diverse students and parents desirable. * Be of general good health. * Strength and ability to assist students with physical disabilities in embarking and disembarking a bus; including moving and positioning special needs equipment. * Expected to attend work as scheduled and model appropriate professional behavior. * Perform other such duties as required. * Willingness to work with children in a kind and caring manner.
