Reports to: Accountable to Transportation Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Keep an accurate record of driving time and mileage. 2) Complete accurately all other reports, forms, or records required by the district or state. 3) Drivers are responsible for the condition of their buses. They shall report all deficiencies and need for repairs to the supervisor/mechanic by means of a written work order. 4) Buses shall be swept and cleaned daily. 5) Before each run the driver shall check the following: * Brakes * Lights * Stop signs and other safety devices * Warning signal lamps * Windshield * Hatches, safety lock and emergency door warning systems 6) Once daily before the first time the bus is driven, the following shall be checked: * Oil level * Water level * Power steering level * Fuel * Tires * Oil pressure * Hatches, safety lock, emergency door warning systems * Air Brake system cycle * 1st Aid Kit * Fire extinguisher 7) Drivers shall notify the supervisor of dangerous conditions, or unsafe acts, which exist on his or her run. 8) Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the Sate of Washington and policies promulgated by OSPI WAC 392-144, and RCW 28A.400.300-340 9) Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety. 10) Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and annual courses established by OSPI and the school district. Drivers must maintain current first aid, appropriately endorsed driver's license, and a current DOT medical certificate signed by an authorized DOT medical examiner as conditions of employment. 11) Operate wheelchair lift and assist students loading and unloading from the school bus (only on lift bus). 12) Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and public. 13) Assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door. 14) Provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus in any accident or other emergency situation. 15) Install tire chains (ability to lift 50 pounds) and perform all pre-trip inspections as required by district practice. 16) Perform after school and/ or sports related trips based on seniority of drivers. 17) Perform other school bus driver-related duties as directed by supervisor of transportation. 18) Comply with reasonable requests made by Transportation Supervisor and other district administration. Additional duties depending on the route you take may include: Clean support vehicles, this will be vacuuming, wiping down, removing trash and washing them all. Also fuel them if they are not on full. This will be documented in a folder. Clean the break room area, sweep, take out trash, straighten up. Also clean the restrooms-all 3, clean toilets and sinks, keep toilet paper and paper towels full, take out trash, sweep and mop once a week. Also sweep through the entrance area and mop when needed. There will be a check off sheet to sign. Qualifications: * High School graduate. * Be at least 21 years of age with 5 years of driving experience. WAC 392-144-101 * Valid Washington State driver's license; Class B, CDL with appropriate endorsements. * School bus driver authorization issued by OSPI. * First aid qualified (eight-hour Red Cross or equivalent). * Meet all requirements of WAC chapter 392-144 and 28A-400, 300-340 RCW (drug testing, disclosure, finger printing). And maintain compliance with state rules and regulations for school bus drivers. * Excellent driving record free of major infractions. * Complete 5 year driver license abstract required by OSPI. * Physically able to drive and perform all duties related to school bus driving. * Provide a copy of a current valid medical examiner's certificate from a certified CDL medical examiner. Announcement # 2025-328 On-Call Bus Driver Tribal School Department of Human Services Hourly Wage: $21.11/Intermittent/On-Call Incumbent is responsible for operating a school bus and transporting Tribal School students and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from school and various extracurricular activity trips as authorized by the school administrators. Operates school buses under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to; fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, and ice. Primary Responsibility: Operate a school bus over designated routes, transporting students. Directly Responsible to: Transportation Director Responsibilities: * Operate all school buses in the district fleet in all types of weather conditions (fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow, ice) in accordance with the laws of the state of Washington and district policy. * Legibly complete forms, records, and reports as required by state or school district policy. * Maintain confidentiality of student information including discipline, demographics or concerns. * Report any mechanical defects immediately. * Thoroughly inspect and clean school buses and related equipment as required by state law and district policy. * Transport students and other authorized persons to and from school, and on any other trip authorized by the school district. * Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and courses established by O.S.P.I. and the school district. * Supervise students while they are passengers on the bus. * Work within designated bounds of authority and responsibility. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Job Functions: * Must be available on short notice to drive routes / trips on a substitute basis. * Operate all controls associated with safe bus operations -brakes, doors, emergency exit doors and hatches. * Perform daily inspection of the vehicle. Lift hood, check oil. Lift 30-60 lbs. * Install tire chains, requiring working from an awkward position. Exit from vehicle in a quick manner. * Must have adequate range of motion to allow visual observation of activities inside and outside of the vehicle. * Extended arm use and use of both feet to operate all mechanical controls. * Sufficient strength and agility to move about in an overturned bus as required to provide assistance to students evacuating bus. * React quickly and efficiently in emergency traffic situations to avoid adverse conditions being brought upon vehicle, passengers or non-vehicle personnel. * Participate in D.O.T. pre-employment drug testing and an ongoing random drug-testing program. * Be punctual, have and maintain an excellent attendance record. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Experience: Previous experience driving in adverse road and weather conditions. Experience and skill in driving bus or oversize vehicles. Credentials: Must possess or be able to obtain a Washington C.D.L. Class B with a Passenger endorsement, and air brake restriction removed. Driving record must be within the guidelines contained in the Commercial Motor Vehicle Act of 1986, and O.S.P.I. for school bus drivers. Must possess or be able to obtain a current first aid card; have at least five years of experience as a licensed driver of passenger vehicle; and be able to pass a physical exam and background investigation (FBI, WSP). Training/Classroom Time: Training to become a Class B CDL holder will be provided by and paid for by West Valley School District Transportation Department. The classroom portion of training is paid time up to 20 hours. Behind the wheel training is provided by a West Valley School District driver trainer. This time is not compensated. Personal Qualities: Ability to work with students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Must be friendly, dependable, have high moral standards and be willing to work with students and co-workers in a positive manner. Physically and mentally able to perform all essential job functions. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Maintain a clean safe building and grounds and operation of a school bus; transporting students following designated routes. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal and Maintenance/Transportation Supervisor MAJOR FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: CUSTODIAN 1. Keep building and grounds clean, safe and sanitary by performing custodial functions including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting and cleaning. 2. Implement necessary repairs both in the building and on the grounds. 3. Ability to make minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs at building site as directed by supervisor. 4. Perform all scheduled work assignments and additional requests determined by the principal and/or supervisor. 5. Know location and operation of all service shut-offs in the building including hot &cold water, gas, electricity and fire equipment 7. Set up facilities for organizations using or renting the school as directed by supervisor. 8. Maintain building security: Doors and windows closed and locked properly at the appropriate time. 9. Other duties as assigned. BUS DRIVER 1. Inspect bus daily prior to operation. 2. Submit bus reports as required. 3. Report any mechanical defects immediately. 4. Keep bus clean and refuel as needed. 5. Drive safely and carefully at all times. 6. Supervise students while they are passengers on the bus; maintain discipline. 7. Work cooperatively with other bus drivers and administrators. 8. Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS /CERTIFICATE AND LICENSES: Employment is based upon passing of a physician physical exam. Must possess or willing to obtain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with passenger (PS1)and air brake, and School Bus (Class S1) Endorsements and First Aid/CPR Certificate. EDUCATION /EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED with three (3) years related trade experience. A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the criteria listed above and satisfies the knowledge, skills, and abilities requirements will also be considered.
