Aquila's Fitness Specialist Intern Spring 2026 will gain first- hand experience by assisting members in safe and effective exercise programs and perform a wide range of duties in a health/fitness center, under the supervision of the site manager. The program provides students with a well rounded experience in the fitness industry, in a professional setting.

As a Fitness Specialist Intern, you will have the opportunity to do the following:
Assist in educating members concerning safe exercise techniques
Assist to perform exercise assessments and prescribe exercise upon American College of Sports Medicine guidelines
Conduct safe and effective assessments including cardiovascular, strength, flexibility, and body composition analysis; evaluate and interpret data and identify high risk participants and special populations
Aid members - spotting and equipment usage
Assist in the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of all equipment
Adhere to departmental and club policies and procedures
Adhere to client's policies and procedures
Assist in wellness and fitness promotions and external events
Perform daily administrative duties under the supervision of the site manager or fitness specialist
Assist in memberships: monthly, internships: signing members up, sending out reminders of payment
Help teach group fitness classes in different styles: step, strength, circuit, Pilates and/or yoga
Helping clients/members with fitness related questions. Performing tours of the facility
Personal Training shadowing and writing out mock PT sessions
Assisting with newsletter, articles, and monthly bulletin board
Compensation:
This is an unpaid internship and does not provide wages. However, at the completion of the program Aquila sponsors an ACE certification exam for the candidate. The program has to be completed in full. The exam fees are paid by Aquila.
Requirements:
Must be an undergraduate Junior or Senior majoring in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Promotion or very closely related major.
Must have at least a 2.75 GPA

Responsibilities/Duties
Review and prospect potential funding opportunities from private funding sources, including congregations, faith-based institutions, corporations, and foundations.
Creates individualized workplans and schedule kickoff meetings for each proposal and report.
Research, analyze, compile and present complex data from a variety of sources in order to support grant proposals. Present data in a variety of formats such as graphs, maps, charts, illustrations, tables, diagrams, flow charts, plain text, one pagers, excel sheets, smartsheets and other formats as needed.
Prepare materials for the monthly and bi-monthly check-ins between Business Development, Programs and Finance.
Prepare materials for monthly meetings between BusDev and each privately funded program to discuss leads, current proposals, and program updates.
Capture and synthesize meeting notes that highlight key takeaways, challenges, and action items to support cross-functional collaboration and follow-through.
Support the maintenance of necessary records, files, reports, and resource material. Keep Salesforce grants management records up to date and dashboard reports accurate.
Responsible for the standard use and set up of Teams channels utilized by Business Development and program colleagues when working together on proposals and reports.
Draft sections of grant proposals such as project descriptions, budget narratives, and organizational profiles. Create and/or gather supporting material for grant proposals. Assist with formatting and final preparation of proposal documents for submission.
Perform a variety of administrative support activities to ensure the Business Development team's financial and proposal requirements are met in a timely manner.
Manage the departmental inbox.
Complete special projects and other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications.
One year of experience in fundraising or grants management, or equivalent education.
Ability to work as a team member and independently, with high level of self-motivation.
Strong organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail. Proven ability to plan, meet deadlines, and efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight time constraints.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams), and Adobe. Confidence in ability to learn new software as necessary.
Experience with Salesforce preferred.
Basic knowledge of online prospect research tools and internet search techniques.
Demonstrated experience building relationships with funders and potential funders.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate complex or technical ideas in ways that audiences of varying expertise are able to understand.
Ability to navigate and collaborate with a diverse workforce.

**Job Summary**

**Responsibilities**

**Qualifications**
+ 4-8 years of experience, preferred
+ Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
+ Strong Excel experience (VB script, macros, VLookups) required
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).
+ Strong time management and project management skills.
+ Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
+ Customer service or client-facing experience preferred.
