Position Summary
Accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is working with our Teaching Services department from your home office anywhere within the United States. Our state certified virtual teachers manage online instructional programs for students around the country and across the globe. Teachers communicate regularly with students to ensure that each student successfully completes their instructional program. This is a work from home position.
Primary Responsibilities
The BusinessTeacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:â¯
Support the instructional program with synchronous and asynchronous web conferencing sessions using Adobe Connect™;â¯
Complete all grading by providing prompt, high-quality, personalized feedback on assignments;â¯
Communicate with students, and other teachers on a regular basis to update pacing plans/schedules for students as required;â¯
Use data to monitor successful completion of assignments and facilitate appropriate interactions with students that encourage consistent interaction with the course(s);â¯
Review curriculum and determine course modifications that will promote student achievement for those requiring accommodations through IEPs or 504 plans;â¯
Consult with team members and administrators to develop alternate enrichment activities and lesson modifications to increase student understanding and promote success for struggling or at-risk students through differentiation;â¯
Develop a general knowledge of the curriculum and a detailed knowledge of the courses for which you are responsible;â¯
Communicate regularly with students, using⯠phone, Chat and our WebMail system;â¯
Adhere to all policies regarding protecting students' well-being and personal information, including following FERPA and Copyright & Fair Use laws;
Keep student performance and participation information up-to-date by grading assessments in a timely manner, and logging all student and parent contacts;
Hold regular office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week);
Utilize a variety of communication tools in the online environment to effectively build relationships and promote student success with students, partner teachers, colleagues, and other stakeholders;â¯
Foster community and use a welcoming, warm online voice that is inviting and supportive towards students and families;â¯

Job Description
We are looking for writing tutors, graduates with a degree in English/writing, or writing professionals to help with our asynchronous (and synchronous) writing services.
This writing service consists of writing essay reviews that fall in line with Upswing's tutoring philosophy of helping students become better writers, as well as the ability to meet synchronously with students via our virtual classroom. We are not looking for proofreaders or editors. You should be familiar with tutoring methodology, and love working with students who are developing critical thinking skills. Writing Center experience is highly preferred.
Position Requirements and Details:
1+ year of college/university Writing Center tutoring (and training) experience.
Fast and reliable Internet, access to MS Word/Google Docs and a laptop/desktop computer.
3.5 GPA or higher with a transcript that demonstrates success in a writing intensive program.
Commitment to 15-25 hours per week during surge periods (approximately February 1 - May 15)
Familiarity with the Socratic method of tutoring, which prioritizes inquiry and higher order concerns.
Provide thorough, insightful, actionable written feedback to student essays/writing assignments.
Comfortable with reviewing a diversity of writing i.e. health sciences, argumentative essays, history and student work that may address controversial subjects i.e. politics/religion.
Once hired, expect to onboard between 2-5 business days.
Asynchronous tutoring pays $13 per hour; synchronous tutoring pays $15 per hour.
