Position Overview

SubCom is seeking a Cable Engineer that is required to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods of time at sea serving aboard cable ships.

Responsibilities

+ Assists with engineering and implementation of deep sea installations

+ Works as a member of a team on activities associated with the installation of submarine cable systems

+ Assists supervising engineer with vessel loading

+ Writes methods of procedure for installation and loading activities

+ Interface with customers

+ Assists with internal and external training support as necessary

+ Interface with all Marine Services functional engineering groups, Project Management, R&D, Newington Cable Factory, Cable Ships & Depots and external contractors

Qualifications

+ Charting and mapping skills

+ Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel

+ Strong communication, technical writing, computer, organization and interpersonal skills

+ BA/BS Engineering preferred

Job Description:

Our work depends on a Cable Engineer joining our team to support the Department of Energy activities at Albuquerque, NM.

At GDIT, people are our differentiator. As a Cable Engineer supporting the Department of Energy, you will be trusted to work on the Cable Plant and be responsible for installation and documentation of new and/or updated Inside Plant cable infrastructure to include conduit, cable trays, copper, coax, fiber and all associated elements. In this role, a typical day will include:

* Collaborating with Department of Energy to Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
* Our Cable Technician is responsible for tasks assigned by Coordinators in connection with service orders and repair activities related to Category 6 cabling, Voice over IP networks (VOIP), and fiber optic cabling infrastructure.
* Dress, terminate and test cables and components, Ability to work with power tools and ladders
* Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors. Computer literate with basic Networking Skills
* Interprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics
* Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance
* Verifies work order information and receipt of all necessary equipment and information
* Verifies service by testing installed cabling; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems
* Well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.
* Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications
* Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation
* Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned
* Participates in special projects as required
* Identify, track and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards
* Dress, terminate and test cables and components including CAT6 and fiber optic cabling.
* Ability to work with power tools and ladders
* Ability to work well with others and communicate with supervisors
* Computer literate with basic Networking Skills
* Your success will be measured through successful delivery of cable infrastructure and related projects

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

* 3-5 years of related telecommunications experience.
* Top Secret Clearance
* Strong customer service experience is highly preferred

Technical skills

* Must be familiar with TIA/EIA and BICSI rules, regulations, and standards in reference to cable infrastructure.
* Candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively to personnel of various expertise levels. Solid Customer Support Skills in a high visibility environment. Problem analysis and problem solving. Attention to detail and accuracy.
