Position Overview:
NTI is seeking a Traveling Foreman with will lead a team, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to customer quality standards while performing advanced fiber optic splicing and testing tasks. This role requires national travel to various project sites and combines leadership, project management, and technical expertise in fiber optic infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure project safety, quality, schedule, and cost compliance with company/client standards.
Lead 2-3 crew members, optimizing skills and equipment use.
Act as primary liaison between Project Manager and crew.
Interpret customer prints to plan tasks and schedule work.
Hold daily pre-work meetings to align on goals and safety.
Verify construction and splicing work meets standards.
Complete phase-specific closeout documentation.
Document job progress with photos.
Maintain company equipment (vehicles, trailers, test tools).
Perform precise fusion and mid-sheath splicing on high-count fiber cables (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).
Conduct live fiber splicing during maintenance windows to minimize disruptions.
Install fiber optic cables in various environments (underground, aerial, indoor).
Execute OTDR/OLTS testing to assess cable performance.
Troubleshoot and resolve live network fiber issues.
Produce FastReporter reports for test and splicing documentation.
Operate Fujikura splicers and EXFO testers for low-loss splices and diagnostics.
Pull fiber cables through conduits/ducts for installations.
Support cabinet bolting and basket tray installation (preferred).
Safely operate scissor lifts for elevated work (preferred).
Comply with OSHA, IBEW Local, and NTI safety standards
Maintain a clean workspace and follow proper handling procedures for fiber optic materials and equipment.
Work Schedule and Environment
Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, adapting to project requirements.
Perform tasks during daytime and occasional nighttime maintenance windows as required by client schedules.
Stand for extended periods (8-10 hours per day) and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
xperience and Education
5+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry with related experience in construction and tower work.
2-3 years of verifiable experience splicing and testing fiber optic cables for dark fiber providers (e.g., Zayo), meeting stringent quality and performance standards.
3+ years of hands-on experience using Fujikura fusion splicing machines for high-count fiber splicing (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).
3+ years of experience performing OTDR and OLTS testing with EXFO testing equipment.
2+ years of experience producing FastReporter reports for network documentation.
Qualifications & Skills
Proven ability to perform mid-sheath (ring-cut) splicing and live fiber network splicing with minimal service disruption.
Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues on live/active network fiber.
Familiarity with cable pulling, cabinet bolting, basket tray installation, and scissor lift operation (preferred).
Strong written and oral communication skills for effective team and client interactions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.
Strong interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
Ability to pass a clean background check and drug screen.
Valid driver's license required.
Fluency in English for effective communication.
Certification in fiber optic splicing or testing (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI, or equivalent) preferred.
Prior experience with major telecommunications carriers or dark fiber providers beyond Zayo preferred.
Familiarity with additional fiber optic testing tools or software beyond EXFO and FastReporter preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform mid-sheath cable entries along with the ability to splice fibers in an active network.
Maintain existing plant without causing signal failure interruptions.
Respond to network outages and perform required troubleshooting and repairs.
Keep up-to-date records of project progress, including production sheets, time sheets, and necessary customer documentation.
Maintain splice equipment, trailers, and vehicles.
Complete certification testing of fiber optic systems.
Experienced in understanding and adhering to safety including those outlined by OSHA, NESC, NEC, and other pertinent standards.

Qualifications
2+ years of fiber splicing and troubleshooting experience preferred.
Knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss connector types and the different types of fibers preferred.
Experience with both ribbon fiber and loose tube with combination in deribbonizing and ribbonizing preferred.
Ability to test fiber using OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and VFL preferred.
Ability to use single and mass fusion splicing machines preferred.
Ability to differentiate between different fiber sizes and colors preferred.
Ability to read splicing matrix, splice, and test fiber in various environments like FTTH, underground, and aerial preferred.
Ability to place aerial and underground splice closures along with other closures common to the splicing and termination of fiber-optic cables preferred.
Capable of efficiently accomplishing the allocated workload within the specified timeframe while maintaining exceptional quality standards.

About this Role
FiberTel is looking for a Fiber Splicer Technician for our Portland, OR market.
The Fiber Splicer Technician position is a skilled position and she/he is considered competent and authorized to work in this field. He/she will have the experience and knowledge to perform all the duties of a Splicer. The Fiber Splicer will generally oversee 1 employee and possess the ability to provide on-the-job training to the Splicing Laborer. What You'll Do

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Requirements:
The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. About this Role
FiberTel, LLC is looking for an experienced Fiber Splicer for our Springville, UT market.
the Fiber Splicer position is a skilled position and she/he is considered competent and authorized to work in this field. He/she will have the experience and knowledge to perform all the duties of a fiber Splicer. The Fiber Splicer will generally oversee 1 employee and possess the ability to provide on-the-job training to the Splicing Laborer. This position will need to be flexible in their hours, with occasional on-call duties including night and weekend work. The Splicer will frequently communicate with the customer and act in a professional manner.
What You'll Do
Responsibilities:
Install and repair fiber optics.
Asist in Fiber optic splicing
Setting up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers
Flagging traffic when required
Flexibility to work in multiple locations
Prepare splice locations, termination points, and installation of splice closures
Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment daily
Splice loose tube fiber
Drive and properly use a bucket truck
Operate splicing equipment
Identify issues with fiber using red light
Construct proper splice cases
Submit daily time cards for crew members
Place a mid-sheath splice
Fill out audit sheets per location (per splice)
Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR
Follow all safety rules and regulations
Update job completion sheet
Pull fiber when needed
Complete cut sheet
Pre-Trip vehicle inspection (daily)
Ability to work at night /various hours.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
A good driving record is required.
Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
Class A Commercial Driver's License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
Knowledge of fiber optic color code and numbers associated

2-3 years' experience splicing fiber
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
Able to perform all duties in fiber optic construction
Ability to travel.

Working Conditions:
This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Requirements:
The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling. What You Will Do:

The Fiber Splicer is experienced in installing, prepping, and splicing Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments. They must also be able to read and interpret construction diagrams and blueprints.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Install, prep and splice Fiber Optic Cabling in ISP and OSP environments
Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables
Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to a laptop computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment for single and ribbon fiber
Read and interpret existing fiber records, on maps or in the field
Complete daily production reports to document work performed; track and communicate daily production and materials
Construct proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.

Follow design engineer instructions
Recognize and repair route issues

Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)
Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed in accordance with customer and industry specifications.
Ensure that all needed tools and equipment are available at the jobsite, working from engineered blueprints, and keeping track of production.
Resolve complaints with property owners in areas that you're working. (Talk to residents & explain what it is we are doing).
Fill-out daily production reports, mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas spliced.
Basic installation and repair acceptance testing of light levels
Basic wiring in an office building or new construction setting
Installation, repair, and maintenance of inside wire.
Responsible for high quality trade craft and splicing duties

Ability to document and validate as-builts for new builds and plant modifications
