Interns will be placed in our Mission Services organization, supporting various business needs of the Laboratories, and partnering closely with the Mission Services Talent Acquisition Team (MSTAT) Summer Internship Program.
We are active in identifying candidates with relevant academic and work experience to provide valuable internships, build a pipeline for possible future year-round internships and/or regular employment, and to meet near-term project deliverables. Selected applicants will be interviewed by a subcommittee of business managers and/or business staff. Subsequently, successful applicants will be matched for placement based on internship interests and Sandia's project needs. Those selected are expected to commit to ten (10) to fourteen (14) weeks of employment over the summer. In addition to a matrix assignment, the program consists of on-boarding meetings, possible group projects, and networking events, among other business activities. Interviews are expected to take place between mid-January and early February 2026.
Interns will be expected to team with others to support Sandia's mission by adding value, improving operations, offering innovative solutions and appropriately managing risk for the corporation. Work will reside within specific organizations at Sandia that support various business functions such as financial management, project management and/or procurement/supply chain.
Examples of past team projects include:
Research and recommend ways to leverage technology to improve business products and workflow.
Research and recommend opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of meetings.
Research and recommend a model for segmenting construction commodity procurement's to proactively address risk.
Day to day activities might include assisting with cost estimating, budget management, website development and maintenance (Confluence, SharePoint, WordPress), generating reports, or implementing solutions to improve workflows or reports.
Salary Range

Security Clearance
This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.
Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. The Structural Dynamics Department (01522) is an integral part of the Engineering Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Our Center is the steward of engineering mechanics and dynamics for Sandia, and we are dedicated to solving our customers most pressing and important national security problems. Our department comprises the System-Level Vibration Testing Lab and the Modal Lab. The Vibe Lab specializes in conducting mission-critical mechanical environments tests for qualification and acceptance evidence of full systems. The Modal Lab specializes in experimental diagnostic methods to characterize the inherent dynamic properties of structures and their complex response under operational environments. We also support instrumentation efforts for high-consequence environmental tests and field data collection operations. PsiQuantum was founded in 2016 with the singular goal of building a general-purpose, fault tolerant, silicon photonic quantum computer. We have assembled a world class team of engineers and scientists who are working on the entire quantum computing stack, from hardware to applications.

Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applied Materials' Plasma Product Modeling (PPM) team in the Silicon Product Group is searching for interns to join our team in summer 2026! The PPM team closely works with the engineering groups in our business units to design the next generation plasma processing tools. The summer interns will be involved in projects related to forward-looking research and development, plasma and plasma - surface interaction model development, understanding the atomic-scale physics at surfaces in contact with plasma, and machine learning methods to accelerate plasma product and process design. Potential projects could include:
+ Understanding and designing new plasma processing systems
+ Use molecular dynamics simulation to understand fundamental processes at surfaces in contact with plasma
+ Developing new capabilities in our internal plasma and feature scale models
+ Use plasma and surface physics models to understand leading-edge plasma etch and deposition experiments
+ Apply in-house plasma models to understand complex plasma behavior

**Requirements**

We are seeking a Year Round - R&D Graduate Intern from one of the university partners in the Partnership and Training for NNSA Engineering and Relevant Sciences (PARTNERS) consortium

to join our Concentrating Solar Technologies department. This initiative is sponsored and funded by the NNSA Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP) for Sustainable STEM Workforce.
In this role, you will work collaboratively with Sandia National Laboratories R&D staff to perform cutting-edge research, analyze experimental data, develop models, and run simulations.
On any given day, you ma be called on to:
Design and implement hardware and components for experimental thermofluid test systems including supercritical CO2 and molten salt fluid flow loops.
Employ CFD packages and high-fidelity research codes to simulate and analyze these processes system components, such as heat exchangers, piping, and manifolds, to predict outlet conditions and ensure safe loop operation.
Assist in the fabrication, assembly, and installation of hardware into operational test loops.
Compare and validate CFD simulation results against experimental data, and troubleshoot discrepancies between predicted and observed system behavior.
Participate in the design, planning, and execution of thermofluid experiments and conduct experiments to characterize thermodynamic properties, heat transfer behavior, and particle physics phenomena in molten salt.
Collaborate with the engineering team to refine models, improve hardware designs, and enhance system performance.

Qualifications We Require
You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Qualifications We Desire
Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program at one of the following PARTNERS universities: University of Central Florida, Florida A&M University, University of California Irvine
Pursuing a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
Strong background in thermofluids, heat transfer, and energy systems.
Experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling.
Proficiency with relevant software such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, MATLAB, and Python.
Demonstrated experience working with molten salt systems, including thermophysical properties, system behavior, and operational considerations.
Familiarity with supercritical CO (sCO) systems, including compressor/heat-exchanger behavior and loop dynamics.
Experience with experimental thermal-fluid systems or test loops.
Experience designing or analyzing heat exchangers, pumps, or thermal-fluid test loops.
Ability to set up, run, and validate numerical simulations against experimental data
Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently in a research environment and contribute to multi-disciplinary engineering team.
