We are currently seeking a VP of Estimating to join our team in Long Island City, Queens NY. The VP of Estimating will report to our Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the estimating team. As a senior leader you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the estimating process within the organization, ensuring accurate cost control, and developing competitive bids. This individual will lead the estimating team, develop and implement estimating strategies, and collaborate with various departments to ensure successful project bids and execution. Responsibilities: Oversee and manage the estimating department across all functions, including hard bids, negotiated work, and design-build opportunities. Assist in training, developing, and coaching the estimating team to carry out departmental and project needs. Participate in company business development efforts and provide feedback on potential project opportunities. Utilize industry-standard estimating software, including HCSS HeavyBid, BlueBeam, B2W Estimate, and related tools for cost estimation, project planning, and management. Lead internal estimating strategy planning sessions, bid calendar and bid reviews. Maintain and grow strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, colleagues, and suppliers. Provide leadership and strategic oversight on bid day, reviewing subcontractor quotes and identifying the most competitive and qualified partners. Take part in leading final bid pricing decisions and submissions, with a keen focus on maintaining profitability while staying competitive. Offer insights on post-bid buyouts and identify areas for cost savings or value engineering. Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). 15 to 20+ years in estimating or construction project management, with expertise in specific areas of heavy/highway construction, civil site work, and public works in the NYC area. Leadership experience with the ability to successfully mentor and inspire high-performing teams. Strong understanding of estimating software, project management tools and industry standards required. Experience using HCSS, B2W, BlueBeam preferred. Experience in Microsoft Excel required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with teams, clients and stakeholders. Strong analytical skills to assess project scopes, costs and make informed decisions. Highly proficient in negotiating with subcontractors, vendors, and clients. Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines. Positive attitude for leading teams and driving projects to completion.
