The circuit simulation intern will assist R&D staff in developing new algorithms and software for the Spectre FX circuit simulator. Job duties may include hands-on experience in researching new algorithmic approaches, software engineering to implement new features, performing software validation and testing, and investigating performance/accuracy issues in the simulator. Applicant should have previous exposure to the circuit simulation area and experience in EDA-relevant software development, particular C/C++ unix development. Background in one or more of numerical techniques for VLSI circuit simulation or related general numerical simulation algorithms (numerical linear algebra, computational electromagnetics, parallel numerical algorithms), EDA algorithms based on graph theory, or software optimization is required. Applicant should be a candidate for an advanced degree in the electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. Power architects guide SoCs from early concept stages through design execution and post silicon. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * As a technical thought leader for power architecture group, work with internal and external strategic partners, customers and industry standards to define AMD power roadmap and competitive targets for bounding box workloads. * Work involves detailed workload analysis to identify high value opportunities in IP, subsystem and SOC to increase power efficiency wrt performance/watt and battery life. * Detail oriented visionary, who can make clear process/flow recommendations and technically drive deployment across teams to achieve power bounding box targets. * Coordinate with world-wide teams including SOC architects, SOC and IP design teams, Systems engineering and Product Engineering to ensure power feature full realization from concept, to implementation, verification, FW/SW enablement, emulation and Silicon attainment. * Lead team in modeling complex power use case scenarios across SoC roadmap, correlating power estimates with pre-silicon model updates at each SOC maturity milestone to final tape-out PTPX numbers, real life workload correlation in emulation as well as post silicon, and ensure aggressive power objectives and goals are met for customer delivery. * Create innovative power reduction initiatives and methodologies and drive cross-organization alignment with SoC and IP teams for implementation towards power convergence. * Responsible for leading modeling design of experiments towards long-term integrated power-performance framework for driving power-perf improvements, voltage margining, feature ROI analysis and architectural solutions. * Define, align, and drive power feature definitions with cross-BU synergy in close collaboration with SoC and power architects. * Optimize PC use cases in terms of absolute power and in relative performance per watt. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: * Thought leader with deep understanding of semiconductor power architecture and power delivery including on-die, substrate, silicon interposer and PCB power delivery. * Extensive experience with power integrity/ signal integrity analysis, droop management/mitigation and capacitor types and performance. * Experience defining and analyzing workloads, system bottlenecks and optimizing computing systems for performance and power efficiency * Experience with architecting new SOC power features and low power states for improving battery life and guide prototyping the features. * Adept at power evaluation, modeling, simulation and silicon attainment * Demonstrated ability to co-own power feature enablement working with Firmware algorithm and software driver teams * Demonstrated ability to write detailed internal and customer facing architecture specifications. * C/C++ programming, automation & scripting languages, Excel, and software engineering concepts desirable * General familiarity with microprocessor and/or PC architecture * Self-driven individual, having ability to work independently to tackle complex cross discipline problems. Key Responsibilities: The Manager of Board Design/Electrical Engineering will be responsible for developing and leading a team of 5-10 engineers in a highly focused global engineering team based in Austin, Texas. The successful candidate will have a board engineering and power systems development background and work as part of a global team in delivering commercially viable products (silicon to systems) to the marketplace in a timely and cost-effective manner. The manager will lead his team to work with other cross-functional teams to design and implement a full power delivery network, model and validate PDN impedance and droop targets, and verify power supply integrity using lab and in-situ silicon measurements. This includes all components of servers including CPU/GPU/Memory/BIOS/BMC/IO/storage/networking, etc. * Lead efforts to validate Scale-up and Scale-out architectures, including definition of test plans at cluster-level as well as writing code to support the validation. * Translating system specs into a robust system integration test plan. * Develop complex/critical test content as well as monitoring/debug/root-cause SW mechanisms that others can use in their plans. * Establish methods to validate, monitor and root-cause errors at cluster-level. * Make improvements to system level integration test strategies, methodologies, and processes * Collaboration with customer and multi-functional HW and SW teams to debug and tackle complex issues * Investigate, profile and enable test content for a wide variety of system domains, as well as benchmarks and proxies for customer workloads into our own test frameworks. These range from industry standard benchmarks to state-of-the-art training and inference applications. * Develop and improve automation features according to requirements * Monitor and analyze the execution of automated tests at scale (for hundreds or thousands of systems), PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: * Prior experience working on HPC or Machine Learning HW systems for large data centers * Several years of experience writing software in languages such as Python and/or C/C++ is a must. * Post-silicon system integration, system testing * Debugging skills at SoC (System on a Chip), System level and cluster level. * Experience with Computer Architecture concepts and silicon features, particularly on machine learning systems (scale-up/scale-out experience is a plus) * Computer enthusiasts and excellent knowledge of current machine learning technologies in the data center. * Effective communication skills including influencing and working across large multi-functional HW, SW, architecture teams ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent This role is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship #LI-KW1 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
