CAFARO company history timeline

1949

“He didn’t stay in that business too long,” Bell said. “He decided he wanted to develop real estate for retail outlets, so back in 1949, he started developing a strip mall in Sharon, Pa.”

In 1949 they founded the company that built scores of retail centers throughout the country.

1950

In 1950, he built two supermarkets for the Cincinnati-based Kroger Company.

1965

His company also constructed some of the first enclosed shopping malls in the country, including the American Mall in Lima, Ohio, built in 1965.

1969

By 1969, Cafaro had built the Eastwood Mall located in Niles, Ohio.

1994

DeBartolo died in 1994.)

1996

His wife, the former Alyce Prystash, died in 1996.

1998

Acker and Cafaro frequently ate lunch together in Youngstown, and, four days before his death in 1998, Cafaro pledged 1 million dollars to WU for construction of a new student center.
