Utah Community Action in Salt Lake City, UT is seeking to hire a Cafe Worker. This position is approximately 32 hours per week. We have various locations.

Our Cafe Worker earns a competitive wage of $15.00/hour. Position Summary

The Cafe Assistant supports the operations of the Senior Center Cafe. Including, but not limited to, daily meal preparation, production of meal specials, and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. Direct and indirect supervision of Saute students working at the cafe, food service staff, support staff, and central kitchen volunteers, including but not limited to culinary interns.

Professional Experience & Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED.
• Current food handler's permit.
• 2-3 years of culinary experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Solid understanding of food safety, regulations, sanitation, and food preparation techniques.
• Comfortable working with members of the public, able to initiate conversations, and provide a sincere welcome and enjoy providing excellent service.
• Knowledge of health department standards.
• Ability to manage and rotate stock.
• Ability to handle cash register and payments.

• Ability to learn, take instruction, and work under own initiative, supporting other team members, and able to multitask.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Robust conflict management and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of health and nutrition services in the community.

Description of Position

Reporting to the Cafes Manager/ Culinary Practicum Instructor, candidate will work as a team executing various duties to successfully run a restaurant/cafe on one or more of the Yavapai campuses and assist with campus catering needs as needed. Some supervisory responsibilities to assist the Cafes Director in the operation of two cafes and various events. Prepare and serve quality food and beverage items. Provide food services ranging from daily operation of two cafes, special events, including preparation, setup, service, and cleanup. Responsible for maintaining a clean, well-functioning and safe kitchen and food service environment. Exemplifies and provides professional customer service and a positive attitude. This is a non-exempt position working up to 25 hours/week.

* Know the menus • Ensure that all areas are neat and clean • Set-up, greet, serve the guest and break-down the function • Keep working areas clean & in-line with hygiene standards • Ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean • Anticipate & acknowledge guest needs at all times • Follow the standard operating procedures & sequence of service of the event at all times • Inform Cafes Director of any guest complaints or concerns • Rotate all perishable products based on proper dating systems • Store all products in proper location & at proper temperature • Continually washes hands throughout the shift in accordance with AZ Health Code to avoid cross contamination • Perform other duties as assigned

Cleaning Standards • Use, maintain & thoroughly wash, clean & sanitize all food preparation dishes, pans, surfaces, equipment, utensils & storage areas & containers; including floors, floor drains, sinks, hand sinks, walls, ceilings, counters and shelves, Clean & restock the server's line(s) on a continual basis throughout shift, empty all trash receptacles and bring all trash bags to the outside dumpsters that exceed 25 pounds • Keep the kitchen clean and free of debris at all times; including floors, walls, ceilings and all counters & shelves; regardless of where they are located in the kitchen; to ensure a clean and safe operating environment for all Team Members • Pick up anything on the floor that could cause an unsafe condition for anyone. • Sweep all floors in the appropriate work area • Clean & sanitize all worktable surfaces, equipment, utensils, and pots and pans using proper approved cleaning solutions

The Cafe Worker reports to the Director and is responsible for assisting with front of the house operations including serving and assisting customers during the check-out process, light food prep including grab n' go items and salad bar prep/maintenance as well as stocking coolers while maintaining clean and orderly servery/dining areas. In addition, the Cafe Worker will work as part of a team assisting with washing dishes, trash removal and other utility-related duties. We all work together as a team!

This is a front of the house position; exceptional customer service skills with a can-do attitude are a must!

Cafe Worker Responsibilities:

• Responsible for running the point of sale system and assist customers as needed
• Set up and restock product, displays, coolers and workstations as needed
• Light food prep including baking cookies, preparing salad bar and grab and go items
• Salad bar includes - wash, peel and cut various foods such as fruits and vegetables to prepare for cooking and/or serving
• Prepare and replenish the salad bar
• Transfer supplies or equipment between storage and work areas, by hand or using hand trucks or carts
• Wash dishes, pots and/or pans using dishwashers or by hand as well as trash removal and storage in appropriate containers
• Make sure the customers are being taken care of and the department looks clean and presentable at all times
• Provide excellent customer service to include being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking customers entering and exiting the cafe
• In addition, the Cafe Worker works with and takes direction from the Chef Manager
• Cashiering

Cafe Worker Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous food/customer service experience preferably within a corporate dining setting
• Must be dependable and have excellent customer service skills
• Must be able to pull and lift up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to work independently as well as a team player
