Credentials: High School diploma or GED. All applicants will work first as a substitute employee before being hired as a permanent cafeteria employee.

Other Qualifications: The position of Cafeteria Assistant requires an individual who is neat in appearance, clean in work habits and follow all safety rules; be confidential; work cooperatively with others; be courteous; have a positive attitude toward work; and demonstrate a happy, helpful, attitude toward students. The employee is subject to a post offer physical examination with a written statement from the physical showing a satisfactory health record and stating the employee is free of any contagious or communicable disease in such form as might endanger the health of school children. The employee must also pass a PAT (physical abilities test) prior to being hired. All employees hired after January 1, 2000 are required (post offer and prior to commencement of the employment duties) to supply fingerprint samples which are submitted to a criminal history records check conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. All hiring decisions are contingent upon satisfactory criminal background check results.

Physical Demands: The employee must have sufficient strength and ability to independently and repeatedly lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and move objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds; must be able to lift objects weighing more than 5 pounds with assistance. This employee must have sufficient strength/ability to independently push cart weighing up to fifteen (15) pounds at a distance of fifty (50) feet. This work involves medium-heavy lifting of boxes, reaching, pushing, pulling, stooping, climbing, maneuvering in confined spaces and prolonged standing and walking; work involves exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals and smells commonly associated with cooking, cleaning and school in general.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Assists in all phases of food preparation, service, proper food storage, and cleaning so as to help ensure efficiency in these areas and all follow up operations work in the cafeteria according to established procedures and methods.
2. Performs required standing and walking as shift allows.
3. Follows safety and sanitation rules.
4. Follows all SOP's.
5. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
6. Employee must be willing to assist in other areas of cafeteria, including but not limited to, cashier.
7. Must be willing to get certified in School Nutrition and attend continuing education classes.
8. Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instruction.
9. Ability to understand and prepare recipes.
10. Must have good mathematical skills.

Staff Relationship: Reports directly to the cafeteria manager.

Terms of Employment: Part-time: Hourly wage local scale without benefits; work only on days the cafeteria serves students plus three days per year for staff training/pre-open set up/ close up. Non-Exempt

This is a full-time position located in the Palmetto, FL area that follows the 180-day school year calendar. Our employees do not work nights, weekends, or holidays. Our meal programs are very successful and a rewarding experience.

The ideal candidate for the position of Cafeteria Unit Leader will possess the following qualities:

• Previous experience in a leadership or management role.
• Previous Culinary experience.
• Strong Inventory Management and food ordering skills.
• Must have an eye for detail in a repetitive environment.
• Caring, thoughtful individual that likes kids and enjoys working with people.
• Results-driven, enthusiastic, energetic, involved, collaborative, hands-on leader.
• Creative thinker with a focus on customer satisfaction.
• Must possess fundamental math and computer skills.
• ServSafe Certification required; will train if needed for great candidates.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Must be able to pass a nationwide criminal background check.

Daily duties of the Cafeteria Unit Leader will include:

• Upholding ServSafe standards and Child nutrition regulations.
• Utilizing commercial kitchen equipment in the preparation and cooking of menu items.
• Accurately order products such as food, dairy, and kitchen supplies.
• Making schedules and maintaining food service and production sheets.
• Completing Inventory.
• Checking and balancing money and make deposits.
• Planning, coordinating, overseeing, and participating as required in the preparation, cooking, and serving menu items.

**Your role**

+ Utilizes computerized diet office application to guide and input patient menu selections to comply with the prescribed diet order.

+ Suggests complementary menu items, condiments, and add-ons to comply with the diet order and improve patient satisfaction. Verifies and reads back menu selections. Maintains a record of patient preferences and pertinent information in the notes section of the patient's account.

+ Follows approved scripting during menu ordering and delivery. Utilizes bedside menu entry to record patient menu selections. Demonstrates knowledge and competency with CBORD system (electronic diet office system), age specific considerations, patient diets, and allergies.

+ Assembles trays and ensures all patient food deliveries and retrievals are consistent with established timeframes, per department standards.

+ Maintains a positive, friendly, and courteous demeanor. Communicates effectively. Speaks clearly and professionally. Uses correct grammar.

**Qualifications**

**What You Will Need to Succeed:**

**Required:**

+ Knowledge of food items and ability to interact with customers to answer questions and to promote food offerings.

+ Ability to read, write and speak English effectively.

**Preferred:**

+ High School Diploma or G.E.D.

+ Previous experience in the hospitality industry to include front of the house, back of the house and customer service

+ Previous cash register\ cash handling experience

+ Serv Safe or equivalent

**The Big Picture**

The ideal candidate actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Nutritional Services Generalist (NSG) is cross-functional in nature and can be assigned various areas. These areas include but are not limited to cashier, food preparation, food server, deli/ salad bar, smoothie/ dessert/ coffee/ dining room attendant, etc. NSG must operate the cash register with speed and accuracy while providing world-class service. This role is responsible for preparing, serving, and\or maintaining the quality of hot or cold food items and\or maintaining the orderliness of work areas as assigned. NSG ensures that when preparing foods, they will follow recipe specifications and ensure the products meet standards for quality, taste, appearance, freshness as well as proper portions and product labeling.
