Remove fruit of predetermined grade and/or ripeness from the packing line and place them in another location as directed. Treatment Help load and prepare chambers for treatment. Unload chambers after treatment. Packing Determine by external appearance, size, grade, and ripeness of fruit on packing table. Remove fruit of predetermined size, grade, and ripeness from the table and place them in a container for culling or regrading. Pack fruit based on orders. Assemble container as required. Place packed container on case conveyor. Examine packed container for proper packing method, material, and carton size. Check weight of packed container as required. Record information from the container as required. Verify packing specifications and apply labels. Close carton boxes with tape machine. Stacking Verify proper sealing of carton boxes. Verify size and color on the container Segregate containers and stack them for shipping or holding. Stack containers for shipping and load shipping containers as directed. Deliver packing material to packing station as directed. GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Agriculture Manager or Fresh Operations Manager, supervises operating departments including land preparation, planting, irrigation, spray, harvesting, packing and shipping and agricultural engineering. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Supervises all land preparation activities including clearing (mowing and drip tape extraction), subsoiling, disking and spading of fields. Ensures that block layouts are accurate and that specifications concerning soil conservation, drainage systems and field roads are adhered to. Supervises the pre-plant application of soil fumigant, laying of mulch and granular fertilizer. Supervises the installation of all ground and surface irrigation pipes. Supervises drip irrigation applications as well as fertilizer, chlorine and pesticide injections. Oversees overhead sprinkler irrigation activities. Supervises boom spray application of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, plant growth regulators, fertilizers and crop enhancers. Also oversees and coordinates all weed control activities (spot spraying and hand-weeding). Supervises all field activities related to planting, including planting material harvest (loading), dipping, unloading and planting. Supervises all activities related to fruit handling, including fresh fruit harvesting, packing and transportation. Supervises the processing and shipping operations. Generates and administers long and short-term operating schedules and estimates. Assists with the development and administration of the operating budget. Participates in agricultural cost control programs to ensure budget goals are achieved. Provides input for the development of research programs. Ensures agricultural practices follow accepted procedures in the Agricultural Practices Manual. Ensures that the administration of the collective bargaining agreement is in compliance with company policies and procedures. GENERAL DESCRIPTION/PRIMARY PURPOSE Under the direction of the Manager, Agriculture, participates in the agricultural management trainee program. The trainee will rotate through all pineapple operating departments including land preparation, planting, irrigation, spray, harvesting, packing and shipping and agricultural engineering. Training will also include the coffee and cacao agricultural and processing operations. The trainee will work with department supervisors long enough to assume responsibility for their functions as a back-up supervisor. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION Position will entail training in all phases of Dole Hawaii pineapple and diversified agricultural operations including coffee and cacao. Participates in land preparation activities including plowing, disking, sub soiling, and other tillage practices. Trainee will participate in field survey and block layout activities. Trainee will oversee the laying of mulch paper and application of soil fumigants. Ensures documentation of all activities including chemical compliance in accordance with worker protection standards. Oversees gathering of plant material including identification of material removed. Assigns employees areas to be planted and provides equitable and sufficient supplies of planting material to planters. Ensures quality of planting by visual checks and maintains records of incentive pay program Oversees irrigation activities including installation of ground and surface irrigation pipes. Participates in application of drip irrigation chlorine and pesticide injections and supervises overhead sprinkler irrigation activities. Oversees weed and erosion control at dams, basins and ditches that are included as contract services.
