Calender Machine Operator - Reading, PA



We have an immediate opening for a Machine Operator at our 621 Brentwood Drive Facility. Hours are 2:30 pm - 11 pm, Monday thru Friday.


The Calender Operator will run the Calendar and Extrusion machines to efficiently heat, mix, extrude and press plastic into a calendared film of various thicknesses. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machines.
  • Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
  • Operates calender and extrusion equipment and is responsible for setting all heat processing parameters, including all width and gauge changes for the plastic film produced.
  • Maintains machinery and operates at highest efficiency while inspecting product for quality defects, gauge control, product specification, and overall functions of the line.
  • Inputs daily production information in computer shop floor data collection system to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Operates and monitors material transfer system. Regulates feed rates according to production demand.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Completes necessary paperwork and reports pertaining to production, quality control, and inventory control measures.
  • Clean workstation at the end of shift.
  • Assists with other tasks as necessary to help maintain efficient production.
  • Perform all work procedures in accordance with safety standards.
  • Perform all work procedures according to the established quality assurance standards required by ISO9001.



Essential Skills:


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend multi-step instructions, short correspondences, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondences.
