The California Aggie company history timeline

1915

The California Aggie was first published in 1915 as the Weekly Agricola after its approval by the Associated Student Executive Committee.

1921

Gunrock is named after an Army thoroughbred studhorse who arrived at UC Davis in 1921.

1922

In 1922, it was renamed to match the school's athletic name.

1923

Established in 1923, College Park’s distinctive, egg-shaped street has been home to countless UC Davis professors and local personalities.

1929

In August 1929 the University of California sent J. Price Gittinger to the University Farm in Davis, CA to establish a music program.

1932

The house was built in 1932 for none other than the first UC Davis Chancellor, Stanley B. Freeborn.

1947

In 1947 the Davis chapter officially became the Cal Aggie Alumni Association (CAAA), with Registrar Howard Schontz `41, serving as secretary.

The Cal Aggie Flying Farmers, Inc. was established in 1947 and is the oldest general aviation operation in the Sacramento, California area.

1955

The chapter threw its energies into fund-raising for the 1955 Memorial Union to commemorate the dozens of Aggie lives lost in military service and to provide a center for student activities.

1959

In 1959, UC Davis was declared by the Regents of the University of California as the 7th UC campus.

1963

In 1963 the CAAA ended its 30-year association with the Berkeley alumni organization and emerged as an independent group with its first full-time manager, John L. Hardie `58, who later served the campus in other roles.

The Band's alter ego was formed in 1963.

1972

In 1972, Bert L. Smith `26, became the first CAAA representative to serve as a voting member on the Board of Regents, and CAAA became fully incorporated.

1983

In 1983, CAAA began underwriting UC Davis Magazine, a colorful quarterly for alumni, parents of students and other friends of the campus.

In 1983 the Band recorded its first album, and two years later made its first international trip, to Romania and Austria.

1992

In 1992, the city of Davis announced its search for distinguished volunteers with knowledge of historical architecture for the city’s upcoming inventory, which aimed to catalogue Davis’ historic buildings.

1997

In fall 1997, the CAAA board of directors announced a change in the organization's name to the UC Davis Alumni Association, with the intent of reflecting a broader and more modern view of the campus.

2003

By 2003, changes in state and federal laws limited the role of non-profit organizations in direct lobbying activities.

2008

In 2008, CAAA was charged with forming the first Parent and Family Association on campus.

2019

Band-uh! to be permanently disbanded, university announces - September 3, 2019

2020
