California Coast Credit Union company history timeline

1940

On 14 June 1940, Camp Holcomb was formally redesignated Camp Elliot.

1945

After his liberation in February 1945 he was taken to Marine Corps Base, San Diego, where he lived the remainder of his life.

By the end of 1945, some 24,000 Marines had been separated at the base.

1948

In 1948, the base was formally named Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego and was home to the Recruit Training Regiment.

1967

Go-go girls have been banished from clubs on all Navy and Marine Corps bases in San Diego — June 16, 1967.

1970

Reviewed by Robert M. Witty, Executive Director, San Diego Historical Society; author of Marines of the Margarita: the Story of Camp Pendleton and the Leathernecks Who Train on a Famous California Rancho (1970).

In the 1970’s the focus increased to include the recruiting effort and the Depot became Headquarters, Western Recruiting Region.

1997

San Diego: MCRD Museum Historical Society, and Escondido: Heritage Press & Productions, 1997.

2005

Maritime Safety and Security Team 91109 (MSST), established in 2005 to protect local maritime interests is also based aboard the Depot.

2017

Ayesha Zantt, a Marine drill instructor, recently transferred to San Diego from Parris Island, where she has led recruits since 2017.

2019

The 2019 Poway High graduate said her father, a retired Marine, played a big role in her decision to join the Marines.
