California Earthquake Authority company history timeline

1996

Since 1996, CEA has been making earthquake insurance as affordable as possible for all California residents, while helping reduce their risk of earthquake loss wherever they live.

In 1996, the California Legislature went one step further and created the California Earthquake Authority (CEA)—a not-for-profit, publicly managed, privately funded entity.

2011

CEA provides leadership to the CRMP Board, helped found CRMP in 2011, and continues to provide partial funding for CRMP's mitigation program, Earthquake Brace + Bolt.

2016

In 2016, CEA introduced policy enhancements that included more coverage choices, more deductible options, and more affordable rates.

2017

On December 6, 2017, CEA announced a policy count of 1,006,927, surpassing the 1 million mark for the first time in its history.
