Job Summary Research Scientist Position - SPHEREx Cosmology (Caltech) The Caltech SPHEREx team is seeking a research scientist to contribute to the scientific analysis of data from the SPHEREx mission. The successful candidate will work closely with the SPHEREx Science Team and is expected to become a full member of the team by SPHEREx first major release, participating actively in the mission's core science programs. Essential Job Duties The primary focus of the position is the development of high-level cosmological analyses necessary to extract scientific results from SPHEREx's spectroscopic galaxy catalog. This includes (as needed) methodological and theoretical development, as well as significant software implementation. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is especially valued: large-scale structure and clustering measurements, higher-order statistics, systematic error mitigation, cosmological simulations, and pipeline development and validation. The candidate will integrate and work closely with the SPHEREx team so good collaboration skills are important for this job. Basic Qualifications Ph. D. (or equivalent), or PhD in progress, in astrophysics, cosmology, or a related field. Preferred Qualifications Strong record of original research in large-scale structure or cosmology. The laboratory of Dr. Sheri Krams at Stanford School of Medicine (Department of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplantation) is recruiting a Basic Life Research Scientist to study core mechanisms of immune recognition and regulation in clinically relevant settings. Our work dissects the cellular and molecular pathways that shape immune responses to alloantigen and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), with a growing focus on how extracellular vesicles mediate intercellular communication and modulate immune function in transplantation and viral immunity-linking fundamental immune circuitry to the biology underlying transplant-associated immune complications. A major emphasis of the lab is defining the diversity, regulation, and functional specialization of natural killer (NK) cells in response to allografts and xenografts. This is an opportunity to join a collaborative program that blends discovery-driven immunology with access to human samples and disease context, enabling mechanistic insights with clear potential to inform future therapeutic strategies. CORE DUTIES: The candidate should have experience, in or be willing to learn, CyTOF, sequencing-including NGS and RNA-Seq, and bioinformatics. The candidate must be quick to learn new techniques and be able to modify and adapt standard protocols. The candidate should be organized, display good judgment, have excellent communication skills and be a team player. The candidate will be expected to write and contribute to research protocols, manuscripts and grants. The successful applicant must have experience in the main areas of application - functional or single cell genomics and/or statistical genetics -- as well as strong experience in modern computational statistics and machine learning. This position will be on-site. The successful applicant will have broad responsibility for providing technical direction on multiple projects conducted by the lab as well as leading projects of their own. They will contribute to all phases of project development including conceptualization, design and implementation of algorithms, computational analysis of genomic and other omics data, simulations and testing of code, and preparation of scientific manuscripts and revisions. Strong communication skills (speaking and writing) are essential. The work will require innovative programming and analysis skills with an emphasis on algorithmic development for machine learning and/or statistical computing. Mentoring trainees on technical aspects of their project will be an essential part of this job. Position Function This position reports to Professor Abigail Snyder in the Department of Food Science at Cornell University. Responsibilities related to the research include carrying out the data analysis and modeling for the assigned projects. Responsibilities related to mentoring and supervising students include helping students with data analysis, experimental design, and manuscript development, which can be done virtually. The Research Associate needs to be an experienced researcher who will use various microbiology, data science, bioinformatic, and modeling skills to research a broad range of projects relevant to Food and Agriculture Sciences at the Department of Food Science at Cornell University. This individual will be involved in the following projects: Modeling of cross-contamination Quantitative microbial risk assessment Covalent organic framework development Analysis of genomic data Statistical analysis and experimental design for the produce and dairy industries Meta-analysis and systematic reviews The Research Associate will perform quantitative research and supervise all digital resources for the lab. In addition, they will be expected to develop new research ideas, design experiments, collect data, present the results, write reports/papers, and develop proposals.
