Athletic Team Coach
The Kern High School District is seeking a qualified and motivated High School Athletic Team Coach to lead a CIF-sanctioned athletic program. The coach will be responsible for providing instruction, supervision, and leadership to student-athletes while promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, and compliance with all California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), district, and site policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct practices and competitions in accordance with CIF rules and district guidelines
Teach sport-specific skills, strategies, and conditioning techniques appropriate for high school athletes
Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities
Foster a positive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, character, equity, and respect
Ensure compliance with CIF bylaws, league rules, eligibility requirements, and transfer regulations
Monitor and support student-athlete academic eligibility and attendance
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, athletic directors, administrators, and school staff
Maintain accurate records including rosters, eligibility, injury reports, and required CIF documentation
Coordinate with athletic trainers and follow district concussion management and injury protocols
Maintain, inventory, and properly store athletic equipment and uniforms
Supervise assistant coaches and volunteers in compliance with CIF and district policies
Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the sport, CIF rules, and high school athletics
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school-aged students
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Commitment to the educational mission of interscholastic athletics
