This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects power plant operation. Job Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and instrumentation. Monitors, maintains, and repairs plant Distributed Control System (DCS).
Assist in monitoring, maintaining, and repairing gas turbine, steam turbine control systems, generators, transformers, and switchgear.
Assist in maintaining, calibrating and repairing plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
Will assist in performing routine trouble shooting activities. Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to effectively accomplish required maintenance in and efficient and organized manner. Optimize plant preventative maintenance program to meet OEM recommendations, regulatory requirements, and corporate maintenance philosophy.
Assist in maintaining logs, manuals, records, blueprints and operating procedures in a neat and professional manner. Provide written reports on control system conditions when required. Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and consistently complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures, helps to identify and eliminate or actively manage risks in all work activities.
Assist while under direct supervision by a qualified Calpine Employee with mechanical, electrical, and operational tasks as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned while under the direct supervision of a Calpine employee.
Report to and take day-to-day instructions, both written and verbal, from a designated Calpine employee.
Job Requirements
Pursuing a degree in Process Technology, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation Technology, or Industrial Mechanical Maintenance or related field at an accredited college.
Completion of at least two semesters of coursework.
GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future.
Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to work on elevated platforms up to 80 feet.
Ability to climb ladders.

Participate in the internal audit process required to maintain consistent standards and to verify compliance with applicable Reliability Requirements.
Perform reviews of plant electrical drawings and protection system maintenance documentation.
Assist in managing Calpine's governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC) software.
Contribute to the development, review and approval of written policies and procedures necessary for compliance with all Reliability Requirements applying to Calpine, specifically as they relate to: Generator Owner (GO) and Generator Operator (GOP) functions as defined by NERC.
Assist in tracking regulatory enforcement actions litigated by the CFTC, CME, and FERC, and summarizing pertinent case facts.
Participate in the review and modification of internal standards and procedures used to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal energy regulation.
Assist with the organization's compliance reporting activities related to resource adequacy (RA), renewables portfolio standard (RPS), Electronic Quarterly Reports (EQRs), and California Air Resources Board Greenhouse Gas Emissions reporting and trading operations.
Job Requirements
Completion of at least the Junior year of coursework for a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Management, Economics, or related fields at an accredited college or university. Qualified candidate must be a student during time of internship.

Summary

Environmental Exposure: Employee will work in and around energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, vibrating equipment, heights, noise levels requiring ear protection, presence of chemical fumes, lead and dust requiring use of a respirator and work in a wide range of ambient temperatures, both hot and cold. The employee will work off of ladders and scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may be required to handle asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials. Employee must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders throughout the plant. Work is often on gravel, concrete and uneven surfaces.

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
This supervised position will allow for a college student who is seeking a career in the power industry to apply as well as enhance their knowledge with regard to all aspects power plant operation. This position will require the individual to work a normal day shift as well as rotating shift when required. Reports to Plant Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Assist Plant Engineer in day-to-day engineering tasks
Assist Plant shift operations including local starting and stopping of equipment.
Assist in Maintain shift operating logs and records when required.
Read and record gauges and meters when required.
Assist while under direct supervision by a qualified Calpine Employee with mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks, inspections, and troubleshooting.
Assist in development of standard procedures for operations.
Assist with Maintaining plant chemistry logs and records.
Assist with the requisition spare parts inventory for plant equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned while under the direct supervision of a Calpine employee.
Report to and take day-to-day instructions, both written and verbal, from the Plant Operator, Plant Manager, Operations Manager and Plant Engineer
